So there's a Johnny Manziel baseball card now
Remember when the Padres wasted a draft pick on Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel back in June? He has a baseball card now.
This past weekend, Topps announced that there will be a baseball card of Johnny Manziel in packs of 2014 Bowman Draft cards that are set to be released Dec. 10. A few of them are even autographed.
Given that the Padres wasted a pick on Manziel in the 28th round in the MLB draft this past June, I guess this isn't entirely surprising.

Sigh.
So there it is. Johnny Football has a baseball card with a Padres jersey on, even though he'll never even play in the minors -- he didn't play in college, mind you. There are 40 rounds to the draft and it's not unheard of for an eventually useful big-league player to be found in the rounds following 28. They did, however, get a baseball card and some headlines out of it.
Of note, though it wasn't related, then-Padres GM Josh Byrnes has since been fired from his post.
Oh and, yes, it is a slow news day. Why do you ask?
