The Colorado Rockies are 7-4 and within a half game of first place in the National League West. Unfortunately, the Rockies received bad news on the injury front on Friday.

That's because ace Jon Gray, who left his start on Thursday with an apparent foot injury, will miss at least a month after suffering a stress fracture in his left clodhopper:

Gray had been wilder than usual in his first three starts, walking seven batters in 12 innings. Still, his absence stretches a Rockies' rotation that was already without Chad Bettis, who continues to battle cancer.

It's unclear who the Rockies will use in Gray's place -- Shane Carle was recalled to give the bullpen a fresh arm -- but the obvious candidates are longman Chris Rusin and minor-league pitchers German Marquez and Jeff Hoffman
