WATCH: Tigers pitcher is just a bit outside with this throw to second
Let's just say that Bobby Parnell did not take advantage of this double play opportunity
On Tuesday, the Tigers prevailed over the Blue Jays by a score of 3-2 in 10 innings (box score).
Things almost got away from Detroit in the road half of the ninth, though. With the score 2-0 Jays, Tigers reliever Bobby Parnell walked Kevin Pillar to start the frame (no easy feat, as that was just the sixth free pass of the year for Pillar). Parnell then induced a tapper back to the mound off the bat Darwin Barney, which seemed to set up a routine 1-6-3 double play.
But then Things Happened ...
All right. The pessimist will term this an extreme misfire. The optimist will say that Parnell flashed extreme glove-side run on that throw. In either case, the results were south of optimal.
For the Motowners, the good news that the they mounted a comeback in the home half of the ninth and then prevailed in the tenth. Thus we are free to celebrate the spike above rather than mourn it. But why no air guitar riff after said spike, as would be the case with a proper and right-wise celebration?
Why indeed, people.
