  • Rockies' Jhoulys Chacin: Slated to pitch in sim game

Chacin (toe) will participate in a simulated game Friday, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports. Chacin has been sidelined for two and a half weeks due to toe sesamoiditis but has been cleared to face hitters. Given the length of his absence, it's possible that the right-hander will require a rehab assignment before he's able to return from the injured list.

  • Rockies' Jhoulys Chacin: Lands on injured list

Chacin was placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to July 24, with toe sesamoiditis, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports. Chacin last pitched Saturday in Milwaukee and surrendered two runs over 1.2 innings, and he'll now be sidelined for at least the next couple weeks with a toe issue. Justin Lawrence was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque in the corresponding move.

  • Rockies' Jhoulys Chacin: Earns second win

Chacin (2-0) picked up the win during Tuesday's 4-1 victory against the Rangers, allowing one walk with one strikeout in 2.2 scoreless innings in relief. That's now two wins in two appearances for the veteran Chacin, who has now recorded 13 outs this season while only surrendering one baserunner. It's telling that Colorado trusts Chacin to pitch when the game counts but he'll need to string together more quality appearances before he can be trusted.

  • Rockies' Jhoulys Chacin: Earns win against Dodgers

Chacin (1-0) struck out three in 1.2 perfect innings to earn the win over the Dodgers on Sunday. Chacin entered Sunday's matchup in the top of the fourth inning with the bases loaded, but the only runs that came across were via a fielding error by Kris Bryant with two outs. The right-hander posted a 4.34 ERA in 64.1 innings with the Rockies last year, which was better than his ERA in each of the last two seasons. Although he earned 17 holds last year, he'll likely operate more as a middle reliever in 2022 and doesn't have much fantasy value.

  • Rockies' Jhoulys Chacin: Tosses scoreless frame

Chacin struck out one in a perfect inning during Friday's Cactus League win over the Mariners. Chacin had given up three runs in two innings across his first two relief appearances this spring, so it was encouraging to see him generate better results against Seattle on Friday. The right-hander picked up 17 holds while posting a 4.34 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 64.1 innings across 46 appearances (one start) with the Rockies last year, but he'll likely serve more in a middle-relief role during his second year with the club.

  • Rockies' Jhoulys Chacin: Returns to Colorado

Chacin signed a one-year, $1.25 million contract with the Rockies on Saturday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. Chacin made 46 appearances (one start) in his return to the Rockies during the 2021 campaign, and he logged 17 holds with a 4.34 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 64.1 innings. Heading into his age-34 season, the right-hander will likely be in the mix for setup duties once again.

  • Rockies' Jhoulys Chacin: Collects relief win Wednesday

Chacin (3-1) picked up the win in Wednesday's 9-5 victory over the Rangers, allowing one hit and striking out one over two scoreless innings of relief. An early exit for Kyle Freeland (hip) forced the Rockies to empty the bullpen, and Chacin became the sixth Colorado hurler to enter the game when he took the mound in the seventh inning with his team down by a run. A five-run top of the ninth then made the 33-year-old the pitcher of record. Chacin has only been scored upon twice in 13 appearances since the All-Star break, posting a 2.70 ERA and 0.90 WHIP over 16.2 innings during that stretch with seven holds in addition to Wednesday's win.

  • Rockies' Jhoulys Chacin: Back from COVID IL

Chacin (undisclosed) was activated from the COVID-19 injured list Wednesday. The veteran right-hander completed a simulated game Tuesday, which was apparently the final hurdle before being cleared to rejoin the active roster. Chacin has a 4.72 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 27:16 K:BB across 34.1 innings this season.

  • Rockies' Jhoulys Chacin: Scheduled for simulated game

Chacin (COVID-19 injured list) is set to throw a simulated game Tuesday at the Rockies' spring training facility in Arizona, the Associated Press reports. Chacin is one of four Rockies players on the COVID-19 IL who were recently cleared to resume working out in Arizona. The Rockies will reassess Chacin's condition following Tuesday's simulated game before deciding his next move, but he could rejoin the big-league bullpen as soon as this weekend's four-game series in San Diego.

  • Rockies' Jhoulys Chacin: Heads to COVID-19 IL

Chacin was among four Colorado players placed on the COVID-19 injured list Friday due to league protocols. It's not yet clear if any of the Colorado players tested positive for the virus. Chacin will be inactive for the time being, and it's not clear at this point when he could return.

  • Rockies' Jhoulys Chacin: Earns second win Saturday

Chacin (2-1) fired a perfect seventh inning, striking out one to earn the win over the Cardinals on Saturday. Chacin entered the game in the seventh inning and retired the side. The Rockies scored three in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a Trevor Story home run to give Chacin the win. The 33-year-old has a 5.34 ERA and a 1.45 WHIP over 30.1 innings. He's been solid over his last eight appearances, with a 1.80 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 10 innings.

  • Rockies' Jhoulys Chacin: Earns first hold

Chacin struck out one in a perfect sixth inning to earn his first hold in Friday's loss to the Brewers. Chacin has served mainly as a middle reliever this season, but he's now picked up a win and a hold in his last three appearances. The righty carries a lackluster 6.04 ERA and 1.58 WHIP this year, but he's found slightly more success recently and has given up just one earned run while striking out seven across his last five innings.

  • Rockies' Jhoulys Chacin: Pitches four innings in start

Chacin allowed two earned runs on four hits and one walk while striking out three across four innings in the loss to the Reds on Saturday. He did not factor into the decision. Chacin made it through four innings in his first start of 2021. He surrendered a two-run home run in the third inning to Nick Castellanos. The 33-year-old has a 5.51 ERA and 1.65 WHIP through 16.1 innings. In addition, he has a very low 1.3 K/BB. He is not a strikeout pitcher, nor has he had any consistency between outings since his first year in Milwaukee in 2018.

  • Rockies' Jhoulys Chacin: Starting Saturday

Chacin is expected to start Saturday's game against the Reds, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. Manager Bud Black said Friday that Chacin would start Saturday if he didn't have to pitch in relief in Friday's contest, and the Rockies were indeed able to avoid using him. Chacin has pitched exclusively in relief this season, though he completed 3.1 frames in each of his last two appearances, so he could targeting roughly five innings Saturday.

  • Rockies' Jhoulys Chacin: Roughed up in relief

Chacin (0-1) took the loss in relief Saturday against the Phillies after giving up three runs on two hits and two walks across two-thirds of an inning. Chacin entered the game in the sixth inning with a 4-4 score, but he struggled on the mound -- he couldn't strike out a single batter and allowed a three-run shot to Rhys Hoskins that eventually sealed the deal for Philadelphia. Chacin has given up earned runs in three of four appearances this season and is likely to continue in low-leverage situations due to his early season struggles.

  • Rockies' Jhoulys Chacin: Set to rejoin Rockies

Chacin is expected to sign a major-league deal with the Rockies ahead of Thursday's season opener against the Dodgers, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. The 33-year-old was released by the Yankees on Monday and didn't take long to latch on with a new team. Chacin spent the first six seasons of his big-league career with the Rockies and has bounced between the Diamondbacks, Angels, Braves, Padres, Brewers, Red Sox and Yankees since 2015. Colorado appeared to have its rotation set to begin the season, but the veteran right-hander could displace Chi Chi Gonzalez at the back end until Kyle Freeland (shoulder) returns from the injured list.

  • Jhoulys Chacin: Cut loose by Yankees

The Yankees released Chacin on Monday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. Chacin was given the chance to compete for the fifth spot in the Yankees' rotation this spring, but he quickly became an afterthought when Domingo German and Deivi Garcia emerged as the clear top candidates for that job. Rather than accepting an assignment to the Yankees' minor-league camp to begin the season, Chacin will weigh his options with other organizations.

  • Yankees' Jhoulys Chacin: Option for rotation role

Chacin has been named among a group of pitchers likely to compete for a rotation spot during spring training, Max Goodman of Sports Illustrated reports. Manager Aaron Boone specifically mentioned Chacin as a possible option for the fifth-starter role to begin the season, though a handful of other hurlers were also pointed out as part of the competition. Chacin hasn't thrown well since the 2018 campaign, so he appears to be a longshot to crack the Opening Day rotation.

  • Yankees' Jhoulys Chacin: Joins Yankees on minors deal

Chacin signed a minor-league deal with the Yankees on Wednesday, Brandon Warne of Access Twins reports. The veteran righty was quite a useful option not too long ago, posting a 3.50 ERA in 35 starts for the Brewers in 2018. Heading into his age-34 season, however, it's not clear he's that guy any more, as he threw just five innings of relief for the Braves last season and owns a 6.06 ERA over the last two campaigns combined.

  • Braves' Jhoulys Chacin: Outrighted to alternate camp

Chacin cleared waivers and was outrighted to the alternate training site Monday. Chacin wasn't able to find another spot in a major-league bullpen on waivers, so he'll head to the alternate training site to continue working. The right-hander recorded a 7.20 ERA and 1.80 WHIP over five major-league innings this season and could be an option to fill in as a reliever for the Braves if injuries occur.
