Reds' Jason Vosler: Outrighted to Triple-A
Vosler cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Louisville on Thursday.
Vosler had been designated for assignment by Cincinnati on Monday after posting a rough .161/.200/.371 batting line across 65 plate appearances to begin the 2023 season. The 29-year-old will remain part of the Reds organization for the time being.... See More ... See Less
Reds' Jason Vosler: Dropped from 40-man roster
The Reds designated Vosler for assignment Monday.
After securing a spot on the Opening Day roster, Vosler made an early splash by providing six extra-base hits and nine RBI through the Reds' first eight games, but a 36 percent strikeout rate during that stretch was a warning sign that tough times were ahead for the 29-year-old. Regression ended up hitting Vosler hard, as he had fallen into a 4-for-38 rut at the dish over his last 12 games while striking out in 40 percent of his plate appearances. Though Joey Votto (shoulder/biceps) remains on the injured list, the Reds will likely turn over first base to Wil Myers on a regular basis to open up more opportunities for other outfielders rather than sticking with Vosler as an everyday option in the infield.... Reds' Jason Vosler: Takes seat Monday
Vosler is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rays.
Since the Rays are deploying a lefty (Jalen Beeks) as their opening pitcher Monday, the lefty-hitting Vosler will take a seat for the third time in five games, with his other two absences also coming against southpaws. Wil Myers will get the nod at first base Monday, but Vosler should have a clear path to regular playing time versus righties at least until Joey Votto (shoulder/biceps) is activated from the 10-day injured list.... Reds' Jason Vosler: Not starting Thursday
Vosler isn't in the Reds' lineup for Thursday's game against the Phillies.
Vosler will take a seat with lefty Bailey Falter slated to start on the mound for Philadelphia. Tyler Stephenson will shift to first base in place of Vosler, giving Curt Casali a chance to start behind the dish and bat eighth.... See More ... See Less
Reds' Jason Vosler: Sits against lefty
Vosler is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Phillies.
Vosler will once again head to the bench with the Reds going up against a left-handed pitcher in Bailey Falter. Wil Myers will come in to play first base while Stuart Fairchild starts in right field.... See More ... See Less
Reds' Jason Vosler: Homers in third straight
Vosler went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's loss against the Cubs.
Make it three consecutive games with a homer for Vosler, who had four long balls all of last season (a career high). He also had a triple in the opener, so Vosler is slugging a cool 1.113 in the early going. The 29-year-old is doing his best Brandon Drury impression and the Reds figure to ride with Vosler's hot bat in the starting lineup for the time being, at least against right-handed pitching.... Reds' Jason Vosler: Homers off bench
Vosler went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run and an additional run scored in Monday's win over the Cubs.
He entered the game in the bottom of the second inning, replacing Jose Barrero (hamstring) on the bases. Vosler stayed in at first base as Wil Myers moved out to right field and TJ Friedl shifted to center. Vosler would end up playing the hero for Cincinnati, hitting a three-run shot in the fifth inning which proved to be the game winner. While he's not an everyday starter for the Reds, Vosler has been swinging the bat well early on when given the opportunity.... See More ... See Less
Reds' Jason Vosler: Sits out Monday
Vosler is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cubs.
Southpaw Drew Smyly is taking the hill for the Cubs, so the lefty-hitting Vosler will bow out of the starting nine, giving way to Wil Myers at first base. Vosler connected on his first home run of the season in Sunday's win over the Pirates and has plated three runs through his first three games. He should serve as the Reds' primary option at first base until Joey Votto (shoulder) returns from the injured list.... See More ... See Less
Reds' Jason Vosler: Clubs solo homer
Vosler went 2-for-4 with solo home run and a double during Sunday's win over the Pirates.
Vosler started the scoring with solo shot during the second inning and followed up with a double in the eighth, though he was stranded. The 29-year-old received the start in two of the first three games of the season and has gone 3-for-8 with a home run, a triple, a double and three RBI.... See More ... See Less
Reds' Jason Vosler: Contract selected Thursday
The Reds selected Vosler's contract Thursday.
Vosler had a strong showing in the Cactus League this spring and might be a regular option between first base and designated for the Reds as the season gets underway. He's actually starting at first base and batting fifth in Thursday's Opening Day game against the Pirates. The 29-year-old posted an .812 OPS in 111 plate appearances last season with San Francisco.... See More ... See Less
Reds' Jason Vosler: Joins Cincinnati
The Reds signed Vosler to a minor-league contract Wednesday.
The deal includes an invite to major-league spring training. Vosler posted a respectable .265/.342/.469 slash line in 111 big-league plate appearances for the Giants last season, which suggests he could find a role on the Reds' talent-depleted roster.... See More ... See Less
Jason Vosler: Released by Mariners
Vosler was released by the Mariners on Saturday.
Vosler was only a member of the Mariners' organization for 10 days, and the reason for his abrupt departure has not been announced. One possible explanation could be that he's on the cusp of signing with a team overseas. While no such move has been announced, he'd fit the typical demographic. He's yet to establish himself at the MLB level, playing just 77 career games through his age-28 season, but his .228/.306/.421 line is decent enough that teams in Korea or Japan would probably be interested.... With Evan Longoria (hamstring) back on the IL, there should be some playing time available for Vosler in the short term.... See More ... See Less

After going 0-for-5 with a walk while making two straight starts following his call-up from Sacramento on Friday, Vosler will head back to the Giants' top minor-league affiliate. Right-handed pitcher Sean Hjelle was recalled from Triple-A to take Vosler's spot on the active roster.... See More ... See Less
