  • Braves' Daysbel Hernandez: Sent to Triple-A

Atlanta optioned Hernandez to Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday. The 27-year-old was called up Saturday and will return to the minors after he delivered a scoreless frame versus the Nationals. Hernandez hasn't given up an earned run in three big-league outings this season and should receive another look with Atlanta at some point this summer.

  • Braves' Daysbel Hernandez: Recalled to Atlanta

Atlanta recalled Hernandez from Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday. With Jimmy Herget (shoulder) headed for the injured list, Hernandez will rejoin Atlanta's bullpen to replenish the team's bullpen depth. The 27-year-old righty appeared in two games during his first big-league stint earlier in the year, throwing two scoreless innings while striking out one batter and walking one. He boasts a 2.29 ERA in 19.2 frames at Triple-A and figures to be used in middle relief while in Atlanta.

  • Braves' Daysbel Hernandez: Sent down to Triple-A

Atlanta optioned Hernandez to Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday. Atlanta opted to keep Hernandez around for a bit after he was initially called up from Gwinnett to serve as the 27th man for Monday's doubleheader against the Padres, but he'll now head back to the minors to make room for Thursday's starter, AJ Smith-Shawver, who was called up from Triple-A in a corresponding move. Hernandez has allowed one unearned run over two relief innings with the big club this season.

  • Braves' Daysbel Hernandez: Beginning rehab assignment

Hernandez (forearm) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Gwinnett. Hernandez is currently on the 60-day injured list with right forearm inflammation and isn't eligible to be activated until the final weekend of the 2023 regular season. He had allowed three earned runs through 3.2 innings of relief with Atlanta prior to the IL stint and could simply finish out the year in the minors.

  • Braves' Daysbel Hernandez: Shelved with forearm inflammation

Atlanta placed Hernandez on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right forearm inflammation. Hernandez's move to the IL clears a spot on the 26-man active roster for left-hander Brad Hand, whom Atlanta acquired from Colorado on Tuesday. After receiving his first call-up to the big leagues July 23, Hernandez gave up three earned runs on six hits and three walks while striking out six over 3.2 innings across his four relief appearances for Atlanta before hitting the shelf.

  • Braves' Daysbel Hernandez: Nabs win in big-league debut

Hernandez (1-0) picked up the win during Sunday's victory over the Brewers, allowing one hit and striking out three in a scoreless inning of relief. Making his big-league debut in the seventh inning, Hernandez flashed overpowering stuff with a fastball that topped out at 97.3 mph and a nasty slider that he used to carve up the bottom of Milwaukee's batting order. The right-hander hadn't allowed a run since May 3 for Triple-A Gwinnett prior to his promotion, posting a 29:5 K:BB in 17.2 innings during that shutout streak, and while he's no threat to take the closer job away from Raisel Iglesias, Hernandez could quickly work his way into a high-leverage role for Atlanta.

  • Braves' Daysbel Hernandez: Joining big-league club

Atlanta selected Hernandez's contract from Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. The 26-year-old missed the entire 2022 campaign after undergoing Tommy John surgery, but he returned to the mound this season and pitched well between Double-A Mississippi and Gwinnett with 26 strikeouts and just four hits allowed across 16.2 scoreless innings. Hernandez's first appearance will mark his MLB debut, and he's likely to fill a low-leverage role during his first taste of the big leagues.

  • Braves' Daysbel Hernandez: Activated at Double-A

Triple-A Gwinnett activated Hernandez (elbow) from its 7-day injured list May 9 and assigned him to Double-A Mississippi. Hernandez opened the season on the shelf while he finished up his recovery from February 2022 Tommy John surgery, but he was cleared to begin a rehab assignment with High-A Rome in mid-April. Though Hernandez allowed six runs (five earned) while striking out six and walking five over 5.1 innings across his six relief appearances with Rome, Atlanta saw enough from him to conclude he was ready to join the Mississippi bullpen. He turned in a scoreless inning in his first appearance for Mississippi last Wednesday.

  • Braves' Daysbel Hernandez: Recovering from Tommy John surgery

Hernandez had Tommy John surgery in early February and will be out until the 2023 season, Kyle Glaser of Baseball America reports. One of Atlanta's better relief pitching prospects, Hernandez reached Triple-A last season, so he could have made his big-league debut this year if he were healthy. Given the timing of the surgery, he may be limited for most or all of spring training in 2023.
