Moran (0-1) blew a save chance in the 10th inning and took the loss Tuesday against the Red Sox. He allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and one walk while striking out one over two-thirds of an inning. Moran was called on to finish the game after Minnesota's top bullpen arms (Jorge Lopez, Griffin Jax, Jhoan Duran) had been used earlier in a tie game. Moran has struggled this season by allowing six earned runs in seven innings (7.71 ERA). Although he has nine strikeouts, he also has five walks. Moran struggled with walks in the minors before improving his control last season (11% walk rate), so his slow start is a concern.... See More ... See Less

Twins' Jovani Moran: Walks an issue this spring
Moran threw a scoreless inning with two walks in Tuesday's spring training win over Tampa Bay. He's thrown four scoreless innings with four walks this spring. Moran reached 98 mph on the radar gun while pitching for Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic, MLB.com reports. Moran gave up one earned run with five strikeouts and two walks in 2.2 innings in the WBC. Moran improved in his second season in the majors to become an impact reliever in the Minnesota bullpen due to his strikeout rate (32.9% in 2022). A big part of his success last season was due to improving his control (allowing just a 11% walk rate from 18.4% in 2021). His six walks in 6.2 innings between the two teams this spring is thus a concern. However, he's set to begin the season as a second lefty setup man in the Minnesota bullpen.... See More ... Twins' Jovani Moran: Back in big leagues
The Twins recalled Moran from Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday. One day after being sent down to the minors to clear room on the 28-man active roster for starter Tyler Mahle's return to the rotation, Moran will be back with the Twins after Mahle was sent back to the IL upon suffering a recurrence of right shoulder inflammation in Saturday's 13-0 loss to the White Sox. Aaron Sanchez is likely the top candidate to replace Mahle in the rotation, while Moran presumably serves as a long man or middle-relief option for Minnesota. Moran thrived in his most recent appearance for the Twins on Wednesday, striking out five while allowing one run on three hits over three innings in a relief appearance against Boston.... Twins' Jovani Moran: Sent down Saturday
Moran was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul on Saturday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. Moran rejoined the Twins' bullpen Monday but made just one relief appearance during his stint with the big-league club. He allowed a run on three hits and no walks while striking out five in three innings Wednesday against the Red Sox but will head back to the minors after Tyler Mahle (shoulder) was reinstated from the injured list Saturday.... Twins' Jovani Moran: Recalled Monday
Moran was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul on Monday, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Moran was sent to the minors in early August but will rejoin the major-league bullpen after Devin Smeltzer was optioned to Triple-A on Monday. Moran has posted a 1.93 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 23.1 innings over 20 major-league relief appearances this year.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Jovani Moran: Sent to Triple-A
Moran was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. Moran has been effective out of the Twins' bullpen this year, posting a 1.93 ERA, 31:15 K:BB and 1.20 WHIP in 23.1 innings over 20 appearances. However, he'll head to the minors since Tyler Mahle is slated to join the active roster after being traded from Cincinnati to Minnesota.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Jovani Moran: Shakes off calf issue
Moran (calf) struck out four in a perfect two-inning appearance out of the bullpen in Friday's 6-2 loss to the White Sox. Moran had been nursing a bruised right calf coming out of his most recent appearance Tuesday against the Brewers, but he avoided a trip to the injured list and was flawless in his return. Unless he's used out of the bullpen in Sunday's series finale with the White Sox, Moran will head into the All-Star break with a 1.00 ERA and 1.00 WHIP to go with 27 strikeouts across 18 innings with the big club this season.... Twins' Jovani Moran: Suffers bruised calf in appearance
Moran struck out a batter and worked around a hit over 1.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Brewers before he was lifted from the contest with a bruised right calf, Dave Campbell of the Associated Press reports. The injury is considered a minor concern and doesn't look to be anything that will keep Moran unavailable for more than a day or two. The 25-year-old lefty lowered his season ERA to 1.13 with the scoreless showing Tuesday.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Jovani Moran: Called up from minors
The Twins recalled Moran from Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday. Minnesota will add the right-hander to the bullpen as a replacement for Joe Smith, who was placed on the 15-day injured list with upper trapezius tightness. Though Smith has been one of the Twins' top setup men this season, Moran is likely to be deployed in lower-leverage spots while he's up with the big club.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Jovani Moran: Recalled by Minnesota
Moran was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul on Saturday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports. The southpaw was sent to the minors in early May, but he'll rejoin the Twins with Danny Coulombe (hip) going on the 15-day injured list. Moran made two relief appearances for the Twins earlier in the year and struck out five over 2.2 scoreless innings.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Jovani Moran: Heads back to minors
Moran was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul on Friday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. He struck out five and did not allow a run in 2.2 innings, pitching Wednesday and Thursday. The Twins will call up Cole Sands to provide a fresh arm out of the bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Jovani Moran: Joins active roster
Moran was recalled by the Twins on Monday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. Moran made his MLB debut last season, struggling to a 7.88 ERA in eight innings of relief work while walking 18.4 percent of the batters he faced. His 16.7 percent walk rate through 7.1 Triple-A innings this year isn't much better, but it's led to a 3.68 ERA when paired with his 38.9 percent strikeout rate. He'll need to find the zone more often if he's to fill anything but a low-leverage role, however.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Jovani Moran: Sent to Triple-A
The Twins optioned Moran to Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. Moran missed out on the Twins' Opening Day roster after he was hit hard in spring training, giving up seven runs on nine hits and seven walks over eight innings in Grapefruit League play. He'll fill a spot in the St. Paul bullpen to begin the upcoming campaign.... See More ... See Less
