  • Orioles' Walter Pennington: Outrighted to Triple-A

Pennington cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. The 27-year-old was designated for assignment by the Orioles earlier this week but will stick in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. Pennington spent just over a week in the big leagues but didn't see action for Baltimore.

  • Orioles' Walter Pennington: Designated for assignment

The Orioles designated Pennington for assignment Wednesday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. Pennington has made two appearances in the minors this season, during which he's given up five earned runs in one combined inning between High-A Aberdeen and Triple-A Norfolk. While he continues to work on his mechanics in the minors, he'll give up his spot on the Orioles' 40-man roster for Luis F. Castillo, who was claimed off waivers from the Mariners on Wednesday.

  • Orioles' Walter Pennington: Headed to Baltimore

The Orioles claimed Pennington off waivers from the Rangers on Monday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. Pennington hasn't pitched this season, but he isn't dealing with an injury and was instead working on his mechanics with Triple-A Round Rock before the Rangers designated him for assignment last week, per Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun. Pennington will occupy a spot on the Orioles' 40-man roster and will report to Triple-A Norfolk to begin his time in the organization.

  • Rangers' Walter Pennington: Removed from 40-man

The Rangers designated Pennington for assignment Wednesday, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. The Rangers selected Nick Ahmed to the active roster Wednesday to make up for Corey Seager's (hamstring) move to the IL, leaving Pennington as the odd man out of a spot on the 40-man. The 27-year-old southpaw hasn't appeared in a minor-league game yet this season, though other teams may be willing to pick him up off waivers based on his career 2.83 ERA and 1.17 WHIP at the Triple-A level.

  • Rangers' Walter Pennington: Heads to minor-league camp

The Rangers optioned Pennington to Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday. Pennington was one of three candidates for the Opening Day bullpen sent back to the minors Sunday, with lefty Jacob Latz and righty Cole Winn also getting optioned to Round Rock. The 26-year-old Pennington reached the majors for the first time in 2024 and made 16 appearances between the Royals and Rangers while turning in a 3.00 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 17:11 K:BB over 18 innings.

  • Rangers' Walter Pennington: Sent to minors

The Rangers optioned Pennington to Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday. Pennington has been solid out of the bullpen since joining the Rangers in August, posting a 2.76 ERA and 1.59 WHIP through 16.1 frames. However, he gave up three earned runs in just two-thirds of an inning during his most recent appearance, which will ultimately cost him his spot on the active roster. Josh Sborz (shoulder) returned from the 15-day IL in a corresponding move to take Pennington's place.

  • Rangers' Walter Pennington: Traded to Texas

The Rangers acquired Pennington from the Royals on Monday in exchange for right-hander Michael Lorenzen. Pennington, 26, has made one scoreless appearance in the majors this season and boasts a 2.26 ERA and 79:20 K:BB across 59.2 innings at the Triple-A level in 2024. The left-hander will be assigned to Triple-A Round Rock for now but could contribute to the Rangers bullpen in the second half.

  • Royals' Walter Pennington: Returned to Omaha

The Royals returned Pennington to Triple-A Omaha following Wednesday's doubleheader against St. Louis. Pennington didn't pitch in either of Wednesday's games while serving as the Royals' 27th man. He's been a reliable option for Omaha, however, posting a 2.22 ERA and 0.96 WHIP alongside an 81:21 K:BB through 56.2 innings. Should Kansas City need to bring another fresh arm into its bullpen, the 26-year-old southpaw would be a likely candidate for promotion.

  • Royals' Walter Pennington: Joining big club for doubleheader

The Royals recalled Pennington from Triple-A Omaha to serve as their 27th man for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Cardinals. Pennington will give the Royals a fresh arm out of the bullpen for the nightcap before he likely heads back to Omaha on Thursday. The 26-year-old lefty previously made his big-league debut last week in Colorado, retiring both of the batters he faced.

  • Royals' Walter Pennington: Optioned back to Omaha

The Royals optioned Pennington to Triple-A Omaha on Saturday. Just a day after being selected to the active roster, Pennington will now return to Triple-A, though he'll keep his spot on the 40-man roster. The 26-year-old lefty struck out a batter in two-thirds of an inning during his MLB debut Friday and could be a candidate to return to Kansas City if he remains effective in Triple-A (2.35 ERA, 0.97 WHIP). Kris Bubic (elbow) was activated from the 60-day IL in a corresponding move.
