  • Cubs' Matthew Thompson: Sent across town

    Thompson was traded from the White Sox to the Cubs on Tuesday in exchange for Bailey Horn, Ken Rosenthal and Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic report. Thompson spent last season at the Double-A level and posted a 4.71 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 136:85 K:BB across 124.1 innings (27 starts). The right-hander will likely need to showcase better command to move up to Triple-A, let alone the big leagues.

  • White Sox's Matthew Thompson: Added to 60-man pool

    The White Sox added Thompson to their 60-man roster pool Saturday. Chicago announced Thompson and 2020 second-round pick Jared Kelley as the newest additions to their alternate training site in Schaumburg. Thompson tossed only two innings at the White Sox's rookie-ball affiliate in 2019, so his inclusion in the pool is likely just a means for the organization to oversee his development rather than an attempt to fast-track him to the big leagues in 2020.
