Rays' Lucius Fox: Moves up to Double-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fox was promoted to Double-A Montgomery on Saturday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Fox is a classic shortstop prospect with the ability to make good contact and be a threat on the bases but without real power. He's lived up to that so far this year, hitting .282/.371/.353 with 23 steals but just two homers in 89 games for High-A Charlotte. That's a profile that plays in the majors, but he'll have to keep making good contact as he rises up the levels and prove he can stick at short. The fact that he cut his strikeout rate (from 25.2 percent to 19.6 percent) while raising his walk rate (from 9.2 percent to 10.4 percent) in his second taste of High-A ball is certainly a good sign.

Rays' Lucius Fox: Thriving at plate with High-A Charlotte
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fox is slashing .304/.368/.378 with eight extra-base hits (six doubles, one triple, one home run) and 11 RBI over 165 plate appearances for High-A Charlotte.

The 20-year-old shortstop is also 9-for-11 on stolen-base attempts. All three components of Fox's slash line are career-best figures, with a welcome bump in contact rate to a career-high 80.0 percent and corresponding drop in strikeout rate (25.2 percent to 17.6 percent) playing a significant part in his newfound success.

Rays' Lucius Fox: Bangs out four hits
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fox went 4-for-5 with a triple, a stolen base and two RBI for High-A Charlotte in the club's 10-8 win over Palm Beach on Sunday.

The four hits matched Fox's career high as a professional, elevating his line to .383/.456/.483 for the season. Along with his accomplishments at the plate, Fox has remained a plus runner with a 4-for-5 success rate on stolen-base attempts. The shortstop's long-term fantasy ceiling is somewhat limited due to a dearth of power, but the improved plate approach he has shown thus far as a 20-year-old in the Florida State League offer increased hope he'll make an impact for the Rays down the road.

Rays' Lucius Fox: Suffers contusion
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fox sustained a left knee contusion during Friday's batting practice session and will remain sidelined as a precaution, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Fox should be considered day-to-day for the time being after getting plunked by a pitch during the team's batting session. The 20-year-old is expected to begin the year back at High-A Charlotte after spending the last month of the season with Charlotte in 2017.

Rays' Lucius Fox: Promoted to High-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fox was called up to High-A Charlotte on Wednesday.

Fox had been putting together a good season with Low-A Bowling Green, hitting .278/.362/.361 with two home runs, 27 RBI and 27 stolen bases. The 20-year-old will try his hand at the High-A level for the first time after spending 152 games in Low-A over the past two seasons. Fox will continue to work on expanding his power and staying healthy, while showing off the speed and defensive abilities that make him a top prospect for Tampa Bay.

Rays' Lucius Fox: Drives in run in All-Star Futures Game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fox went 0-for-2 with an RBI groundout during Team World's 7-6 loss to Team USA in Sunday's All-Star Futures Game.

The 20-year-old has been solid during his first season at Low-A Bowling Green, slashing .279/.361/.357 with 15 extra-base hits (11 doubles, two triples, two home runs), 26 RBI, 26 stolen bases and 42 runs over 306 plate appearances. Part of the August 2016 trade with the Giants that also netted the Rays shortstop Matt Duffy, Fox's speed and plate discipline afford him plenty of fantasy potential, although he naturally has a long journey ahead of him before hitting the major-league level.

Rays' Lucius Fox: Showing off speed at Low-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fox, 19, is hitting .282/.355/.370 with two home runs and 18 steals (in 24 attempts) in 243 plate appearances with Low-A Bowling Green.

While he has the potential to develop double-digit home run power down the road, at this stage in the game it is all about refining his approach, getting on base and putting his speed to work, and so far he is doing just that. Fox has a chance to be a leadoff hitter in time, and his dynasty league stock is trending up.

Rays' Lucius Fox: Will begin season with Low-A Bowling Green
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fox (foot) will report to Low-A Bowling Green to begin the season, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Fox, who was acquired as part of the Matt Moore trade last summer, didn't play at all with the Rays after being acquired from the Giants, as he was recovering from a season-ending foot injury. It appears the 19-year-old shortstop has since fully healed, as he was able to play in one game in fall instructional league and entered spring training with no limitations. The switch-hitting Fox is an excellent athlete who was a difference maker on the basepaths for Low-A Augusta last season with 25 steals in just 75 games, but he could still use further refinement at the plate after slashing .207/.305/.277.

Rays' Lucius Fox: Injury doesn't net Rays additional compensation
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fox (foot) will remain with the Rays following his trade from the Giants and the team will not receive additional compensation despite his previously undiagnosed injury, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Timesreports.

There had been talk that the Rays might be entitled to extra consideration from the Giants, due to Fox being forced to sit out the next 4-6 weeks to rest a bone bruise in his foot. The injury, which resulted from a ball that the 19-year-old prospect had fouled off his foot shortly before the July 31 trade from San Francisco, was not known to the Rays prior to the move. Fox had been able to play through the discomfort, which was the key to both clubs concluding that the Giants were legitimately unaware that the pain was indicative of anything other than residual soreness when they included him in the deal that netted them Matt Moore. Fox is expected to be healed in time to make his Rays organizational debut when the fall instructional league kicks off in September.

Rays' Lucius Fox: Foot injury a surprise to Rays
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fox, a highly regarded prospect acquired from the Giants in the Matt Moore trade, has a bone bruise on his foot that the Rays were not made aware of before the deal, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The 19-year-old had apparently fouled a ball of his left foot approximately a week before the trade and had been playing through the pain, completely unbeknownst to the Rays. While the injury is not deemed to be overly serious, it is expected to keep Fox sidelined 4-6 weeks, effectively knocking him out for the remainder of the minor league season and pushing Fox's Rays organizational debut until the fall instructional league. The team is expected to seek additional compensation from the Giants, but have no plans to send Fox back to the San Francisco organization.

Rays' Lucius Fox: Sent to Rays in four-player deal
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fox has been traded to the Rays as a part of the multi-player swap that sent Matt Moore to San Francisco on Monday, ESPN's Buster Olney reports.

Just 19 years old, Fox has struggled in his first professional season in the South Atlantic League, hitting .207/.305/.277 through 75 games at Low-A Augusta. Given his age, the Rays are banking that Fox will be able to make strides as he continues to mature, and he's already shown an ability to make an impact as a base stealer (25-for-32) despite the low OBP to this point.

Giants' Lucius Fox: Struggling in South Atlantic League
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fox, 19, is hitting .208/.307/.283 with two home runs and 23 steals (in 30 attempts) in 265 at-bats with Low-A Augusta.

The Giants aggressively assigned Fox to the South Atlantic League this year, and the results haven't been very pretty. He's getting on base at nearly a league-average clip and is sixth in the league in steals, but appears outmatched in all other aspects of his game. This should be seen as a developmental year, and the fact that the team has not demoted him to a less challenging league suggests he is getting better, even if that improvement doesn't jump off the page. He remains a top-10 prospect in the Giants' system and a top-200 prospect overall.

Giants' Lucius Fox: Good start to minor league career
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fox is 2-for-8 with a home run in his first two games for Low-A Augusta.

Fox signed a $6 million deal with the Giants last summer as a top international free agent after he left the U.S. to move to his native Bahamas. It's notable that the 18-year old begins his minor league career in High-A rather than rookie ball.
