Mets' Patrick Mazeika: Back with big club
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Mets recalled Mazeika from Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

With No. 2 backstop Tomas Nido landing on the injured list for the third time since the All-Star break with a sprained left thumb, Mazeika will rejoin the big club to serve as the top understudy to James McCann for the final five games of the season. Mazeika has hit .197 with one home run in 36 games at the big-league level in 2021.

Mets' Patrick Mazeika: Optioned to Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mazeika was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News reports.

The move comes after catcher Tomas Nido (thumb) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list. In 19 games after getting recalled on Aug. 17, Mazeika struggled to a .157 batting average with only two extra-base hits in 51 at-bats.

Mets' Patrick Mazeika: Moves into reserve role
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mazeika is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Mazeika's run as the Mets' undisputed No. 1 catcher ended Saturday, when James McCann (back) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list. Expect McCann to handle the bulk of the catching duties for the rest of the season as the 69-68 Mets aim to chase down Atlanta and Philadelphia for the National League East crown.

Mets' Patrick Mazeika: Takes seat Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mazeika is out of the lineup Friday against the Nationals, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Mazeika started the past four games and will receive a maintenance day in Washington. He should continue to operate as the No. 1 option at catcher until James McCann (back) or Tomas Nido (thumb) are healthy, but Chance Sisco will receive the start Friday.

Mets' Patrick Mazeika: Filling in as No. 1 catcher
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mazeika will start at catcher and bat eighth Sunday against the Dodgers.

Mazeika is in the lineup for the fifth time in six games and looks poised to serve as New York's primary catcher while both James McCann (back) and Tomas Nido (thumb) are on the injured list. Through his first 41 big-league plate appearances, Mazeika owns a strong .270 average, but he's supplemented it with few counting stats (one home run, four RBI, three runs and no steals).

Mets' Patrick Mazeika: Called up by Mets
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mazeika was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse on Monday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

The 27-year-old spent a month and a half in the minors, but he'll rejoin the big-league club as depth behind the plate after Tomas Nido (thumb) was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday. Mazeika has hit .273 with a home run and four RBI in 16 major-league games this season.

Mets' Patrick Mazeika: Sent to Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mazeika was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse on Friday.

The 27-year-old worked as the Mets' backup catcher while Tomas Nido (wrist) was on the injured list, so he'll head back to the minors with Nido activated Friday. Mazeika is 6-for-22 in 16 games this season and should remain in the minors as long as James McCann and Nido are healthy.

Mets' Patrick Mazeika: Recalled from Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Mets recalled Mazeika from Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Mazeika hit .214 in 14 at-bats with the Mets before being optioned May 31, most notably putting the ball in play for two walk-off winners. He was recalled in May to be the backup catcher while Tomas Nido was injured, so now he'll presumably be the third catcher and simply an extra bat available off the bench.

Mets' Patrick Mazeika: Moving to Triple-A
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Mets optioned Mazeika to Triple-A Syracuse on Monday.

Mazeika had been serving as a No. 3 catcher and a reserve first baseman since his May 5 call-up, picking up only 16 plate appearances over the last three-plus weeks. He was deemed expendable with the Mets bringing back Pete Alonso (hand) from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.

Mets' Patrick Mazeika: Homers in loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mazeika went 1-for-3 with a home run in Sunday's loss to the Rays.

Mazeika replaced Jeff McNeil (hamstring) and made the most of his opportunity, recording his first homer of the season while seeing more than one at-bat for the first time in 2021. That said, he isn't likely to see a lot of at-bats going forward, and his value should remain minimal until that situation changes.

Mets' Patrick Mazeika: Joins big-league club
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mazeika was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse ahead of Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader at St. Louis.

The 27-year-old will join the major-league roster between contests of the twin bill with Brandon Nimmo (finger) heading to the injured list. Mazeika is unlikely to see much playing time with James McCann and Tomas Nido healthy.

Mets' Patrick Mazeika: Moved to alternate camp
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mazeika was optioned to New York's alternate camp site Wednesday, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

Mazeika failed to make an appearance during his brief time with the Mets. With Mazeika at the team's satellite camp and Tomas Nido (illness) on the shelf, Ali Sanchez will serve as Wilson Ramos' backup for the time being.

Mets' Patrick Mazeika: Replaces Nido as backup catcher
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mazeika's contract was purchased prior to Tuesday's game against the Marlins, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

The 26-year-old backstop has never played above Double-A, where he has spent the entirety of the last two seasons. Tomas Nido was placed on the injured list for an undisclosed reason in a corresponding move, so Mazeika will serve as Wilson Ramos' backup for the time being.

Mets' Patrick Mazeika: Part of player pool
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mazeika has been named to the Mets' 60-man player pool, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

The 26-year-old has yet to play above Double-A in his career, but Mazeika's left-handed power (he slugged 16 homers in 116 games for Binghamton last season) could earn him an occasional pinch-hitting assignment if the Mets' catching depth gets tested.

Mets' Patrick Mazeika: Receives NRI to camp
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mazeika will attend spring training as a non-roster invitee, Abbey Mastracco of NJ.com reports.

Mazeika started the 2017 season at High-A St. Lucie before being sent to Double-A Binghamton. He earned a promotion to Double-A by hitting .287 with seven home runs and 50 RBI in 352 at-bats for St. Lucie. At this point, his bat is more advanced than his defense behind the plate, which could prompt a position change to first base in the future.

Mets' Patrick Mazeika: New signs of power
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mazeika has hit seven home runs and stolen two bases while batting .302 this season for High-A St. Lucie.

Mazeika is climbing up the minor-league ladder, advancing a level with each passing season. So far, he has yet to show any signs of slowing down. The seven home runs are already the most he's ever hit in one season, and he's on pace to record his third straight year of hitting over .300.
