White Sox's Danny Mendick: Likely UT in 2020
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mendick is expected to serve as the White Sox's utility infielder in 2020, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports. He's hitting .235 (8-for-34) with two walks, two doubles, two RBI and eight strikeouts over 15 spring games.

Mendick, who was a 26th-round draft pick out of the University of Massachusetts-Lowell in 2015, played three infield positions for the White Sox in 2019. When 2020 camp began, he was added to the short list of competitors, along with Leury Garcia and the organization's third-ranked prospect, Nick Madrigal, for the starting second base job. It looks like Garcia will be the starter while Madrigal hits the minors before an eventual callup later in the season. That leaves the lightly regarded Mendick, 26, as the primary backup at second base, shortstop and third base. He showed decent power for a utility infielder at Triple-A Charlotte and has stolen 39 bases over the last two minor-league seasons.

White Sox's Danny Mendick: Starts for Sanchez
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mendick went 2-for-5 with an RBI in Friday's 9-7 win over the Mariners.

Mendick, who got the start at second base for the resting Yolmer Sanchez, has seven hits in 21 at-bats while getting spotty playing time since being added to the roster for the month of September. The 25-year-old infielder will fill in at three infield spots whenever manager Rick Renteria wants to give Sanchez, shortstop Tim Anderson or third baseman Yoan Moncada a day off.

White Sox's Danny Mendick: Smashes first career homer
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mendick went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and two runs in a 5-1 victory against the Angels on Sunday.

The 25-year-old has a hit in each of his three starts, and now he has his first career MLB homer. Mendick is 5-for-14 with one extra-base hit, one RBI and three runs across five games to begin his major-league career.

White Sox's Danny Mendick: Makes hot corner start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mendick started at third base and went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Thursday's 7-1 win over the Indians.

Mendick is a fringe prospect that doesn't project to have a role next season. He plays three infield positions, two of which are jammed up by third baseman Yoan Moncada and shortstop Tim Anderson. He could compete for a job at second base next spring, but that spot will eventually go to Nick Madrigal, who finished the 2019 season at Triple-A.

White Sox's Danny Mendick: Contract purchased by White Sox
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mendick's contract was selected by the White Sox on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old spent the season with Triple-A Charlotte, hitting a solid .279/.368/.444. He's considered a fringe prospect, with no standout tools, though he could get a fair amount of at-bats down the stretch in an audition for next season.

White Sox's Danny Mendick: Back at third base
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mendick (wrist) entered Sunday's spring game against Oakland and went 0-for-1 with a walk and a run scored.

Mendick was drilled by a pitch in the wrist during Friday's contest, but he avoided major injury and managed to return to action Sunday.

White Sox's Danny Mendick: Diagnosed with bruised wrist
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mendick is considered day-to-day after getting hit by a pitch in his right wrist Thursday against the Angels, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Mendick didn't require X-rays after departing the contest and simply has a bruise, which is positive news for the White Sox. He'll be evaluated on a daily basis moving forward.

White Sox's Danny Mendick: Exits after HBP
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Mendick departed Friday's spring game against the Angels after being struck by a pitch in his right hand, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

More details surrounding the injury likely won't surface until the team runs further tests. He was having a strong day at the dish prior to the injury, collecting two hits and an RBI in three at-bats.
