Royals' Daniel Tillo: Placed on 60-day IL
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillo (elbow) was moved to the 60-day injured list Monday.

Tillo has been working his way back from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent in July 2020. He's targeting June 22 for a return to game action. Tillo's placement on the 60-day injured list will make room on the 40-man roster for southpaw Daniel Lynch, whose contract was selected by the Royals in a corresponding move.

Royals' Daniel Tillo: Throws from 120 feet
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillo (elbow) has been throwing from up to 120 feet in spring training, MLB.com reports. He plans to pitch his first bullpen session during the second week of April and is targeting June 22 for a return to game action.

He's working his way back from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent in July 2020. The Royals think the left-handed Tillo could be electric in a bullpen role once he's back to full strength, though he's yet to pitch above Double-A.

Royals' Daniel Tillo: Resumes throwing
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillo (elbow) threw Monday for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery, the pitcher revealed on his personal Twitter page.

Tillo underwent the procedure in July of last year. Given a typical recovery timeline, he has at most an outside chance of pitching in a game near the end of the upcoming campaign. He's yet to pitch above Double-A, though, so he won't be making a big-league impact until 2022 at the earliest.

Royals' Daniel Tillo: Protected from Rule 5 draft
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillo (elbow) was added to the 40-man roster Friday, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.

With Tillo likely to miss the entire 2021 season recovering from August 2020 Tommy John surgery, he will be easy to stash on the 60-day injured list now that he is on the 40-man roster. The Royals think the left-handed Tillo could be electric in a bullpen role as early as 2022.

Royals' Daniel Tillo: Recovering from Tommy John surgery
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillo underwent Tommy John surgery on his left elbow July 29, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.

The Royals added Tillo to their 60-man roster pool in late June, but the 24-year-old southpaw never made a serious run at a spot on the Opening Day roster before he was shut down late in summer camp with UCL damage in his elbow. After getting some opinions from doctors, Tillo officially decided to go under the knife just over two weeks ago rather than treating the injury with rest and rehab. He'll miss the remainder of the season and likely all of the 2021 campaign while recovering from the procedure.

Royals' Daniel Tillo: Tests positive for coronavirus
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillo (elbow) was placed on the injured list Friday after testing positive for COVID-19, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.

It's been a brutal pair of days for Tillo, as an MRI on his left elbow Thursday revealed damage to his UCL. He'll presumably be focused on his illness for now, delaying the Royals' decision on how to proceed with his elbow. Tommy John surgery could potentially be on the table.

Royals' Daniel Tillo: MRI shows UCL damage
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillo underwent an MRI on Thursday which revealed damage to the UCL in his left elbow, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.

The 24-year-old was scratched Wednesday after experiencing arm soreness, and the MRI brought some troublesome news. Tillo may seek out a second opinion, but the obvious worry is that UCL damage can bring the potential of Tommy John surgery. The left-hander has no official timeline for his return, but it's unlikely he'll be pitching in the near future.

Royals' Daniel Tillo: Will undergo MRI
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillo will undergo a precautionary MRI on Thursday after experiencing arm soreness, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.

Tillo had been scheduled to pitch Wednesday, but he was unable to as a result of arm soreness. He'll undergo an MRI as a precautionary measure to determine the severity of the issue and whether he'll have to miss any time. The southpaw isn't expected to make the Opening Day roster, so it wouldn't be surprising to see the team proceed with caution in the coming days, even if the results come back clean.

Royals' Daniel Tillo: Added to 60-man pool
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillo will be a part of the Royals' 60-man player pool this season, Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes reports.

He was in camp as a non-roster invitee prior to the shutdown. Tillo probably profiles best as a reliever long term, especially given the quality of some of the other starting pitching prospects in this system. Last year he logged a 3.47 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 21 strikeouts in 23.1 innings at Double-A.

Royals' Daniel Tillo: Invited to major-league camp
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillo was invited to the Royals' major league spring training Monday, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports.

Tillo made his Double-A debut in 2019, where he recorded a 3.47 ERA and 1.43 WHIP over 23.1 innings. It was a limited sample size, but he'll now get the chance to work with the major-league coaching staff in spring training to further his development. Given his lack of experience at higher levels, it's unlikely that he'll begin the season on the major-league roster, but he could enter the conversation for a big-league spot at some point if he continues to develop.
