Rangers' Cole Winn: Joins 60-player pool
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Winn was added to the Rangers' 60-player pool Wednesday.

The young right-hander will head to the alternate training site to begin participating in team workouts. Winn was the 15th overall pick in 2018 and had a 4.46 ERA and 1.43 WHIP at Low-A Hickory last year in his first taste of professional ball.

Rangers' Cole Winn: Strong finish to first season
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Winn posted a 4.46 ERA with 39 walks and 65 strikeouts over 68.2 innings for Low-A Hickory in 2019.

Winn, the Rangers' first-round pick in 2018, made his professional debut in 2019 after spending his first months following the draft in what the organization calls a "deload" program, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. That's when young pitchers out of high school focus on mechanics and routine. His introduction to pro ball wasn't pretty, but the right-hander finished strong, recording a 3.20 ERA and 1.24 WHIP over his final 13 starts. The 20-year-old throws four pitches -- 94 MPH fastball, slider, curve and changeup -- with the curve being the most advanced. Winn's compact delivery suggests an ability to repeat his mechanics.

Rangers' Cole Winn: Trouble throwing strikes
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Winn allowed one run on two hits and five walks while striking out one over four innings for Low-A Hickory on Tuesday.

The one run allowed was the fewest in three starts for Winn but he has experienced wayward control. The 19-year-old right-hander has walked 10 batters over 8.1 innings. The Rangers' first-round pick (15th overall) in 2018 has skipped short-season ball for a more advanced placement.

by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Winn will make his professional debut Thursday for Low-A Hickory, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.

Winn, the Rangers' No. 1 pick in 2018, had stayed back in extended spring training and is skipping short-season rookie leagues entirely.

Rangers' Cole Winn: Opens in extended ST
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Winn will begin the year in extended spring training before being sent to an affiliate, Sam Dykstra of MiLB.com reports.

The 15th overall pick in last year's draft, Winn did not debut after signing, as the Rangers wanted to manage his innings. It will be more of the same to start 2019, but the 19-year-old right-hander should make his pro debut in May or June.
