Prince Fielder: Released by Rangers
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fielder (neck) was released by Texas on Wednesday.

While it was expected that Fielder would stay on the 40-man roster until his contract expired in 2020, it appears as though there was a financial settlement regarding the 33-year-old's neck injury that allowed the club to take him off the roster. Fielder announced his retirement in August of 2016.

Rangers' Prince Fielder: Placed on 60-day DL
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fielder (neck) was placed on the 60-day DL on Tuesday.

This was a procedural move removing Fielder from the 40-man roster. Fielder has already announced the end of his playing career after undergoing neck-fusion surgery last summer, but he will remain on the 40-man roster in the offseason, likely through the end of his contract (2020).

Rangers' Prince Fielder: Announces end of playing career
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fielder announced that his playing career has ended Wednesday, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Although he'll remain on the teams 40-man roster for the next four years for contractual purposes, the slugger's playing career has officially come to an end. Fielder will retire with a career line of .283/.382/.506 and 319 home runs.

Rangers' Prince Fielder: Expected to retire
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fielder (neck) is expected to announce his retirement in a press conference Wednesday, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports.

It was known that the neck injury Fielder is recovering from would end his 2016 season, but it now appears it will prevent him from ever taking the field again. Expect Fielder's status to be updated further once either team or player confirm the report.

Rangers' Prince Fielder: Transferred to 60-day DL
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fielder was transferred to the 60-day DL on Monday.

The move is nothing more than a formality, as Fielder is expected to miss the remainder of the season after undergoing neck surgery last week. Placing Fielder on the 60-day DL frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for newly acquired outfielder Carlos Beltran.

Rangers' Prince Fielder: Surgery went as expected
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fielder (neck) underwent surgery Friday and will be in a neck brace for the next two weeks before being re-examined, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.

Fielder's surgery went as expected and if everything looks right when he gets it checked out two weeks from now, he should begin rehabbing for next season in due time. The 32-year-old had one of the worst years of his career in 2016, hitting just .212/.292/.334 with eight home runs and 44 RBI, and will have a long offseason to clear his mind and recover for 2017.

Rangers' Prince Fielder: To undergo season-ending surgery
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fielder (neck) will undergo season-ending surgery on Friday.

He will undergo surgery for herniation of C4/C5 disc on Friday, which will be performed by Dr. Drew Dossett. Fielder was one of the biggest busts in fantasy this year and he will now undergo the second major herniated disc surgery of his career. He hit .212/.292/.334 with eight home runs in 89 games and his .626 OPS was by far the lowest mark of his career. It is hard to realistically expect much from him going forward, but given how much money remains on his contract ($120 million), he will certainly get plenty of chances to return to form.

Rangers' Prince Fielder: Expected to undergo surgery this week
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fielder (neck) is expected to undergo surgery later in the week, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

The Rangers were hoping Fielder would be able to avoid surgery for the herniated disc in his neck, but after a meeting with another doctor Monday, it's been recommended that he undergoes what would be a season-ending procedure. The team has yet to offer official confirmation, but at this point it seems all but inevitable that Fielder remains sidelined until 2017. Assuming that is indeed the case, Mitch Moreland and Jurickson Profar will continue to serve as the top options at first base and designated hitter.

Rangers' Prince Fielder: Could miss rest of season
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fielder (neck) could miss the rest of the season if he undergoes surgery for the herniated disk in his neck, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.

Fielder has similar symptoms to the herniated disk that he suffered from in 2014, even though this one is not in the same exact spot. The slugger will be examined by Dr. Drew Dossett on Friday after having an MRI done Tuesday. Fielder was placed on the disabled list and will likely need to undergo another surgical procedure, which is what the Los Angeles doctor (Dr. Robert Watkins) who saw him Tuesday stated. While he is out, Jurickson Profar looks to expand on his growing role while Delino DeShields Jr. and Hanser Alberto were called up from Triple-A Round Rock.

Rangers' Prince Fielder: Out of lineup Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fielder is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Angels, John Blake of the Rangers' front office reports.

This will be Fielder's second time out of the lineup in the past four days, as Shin-Soo Choo takes over as the designated hitter Tuesday. The slugger is hitting .212/.292/.334 with eight home runs and 44 RBI so far this season, and will likely be back in the lineup for Wednesday's contest.

Rangers' Prince Fielder: Crushes eighth bomb of year Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fielder went 1-for-2 with a two-run homer and two walks Wednesday at the Red Sox.

Fielder launched his eighth homer of the year in the sixth inning, but it did little to help the Rangers, as they were clobbered by the Red Sox. He's now hit safely in four of his last five games, and he's slashing .219/.298/.352 on the year.

Rangers' Prince Fielder: Extends hit streak to 10
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fielder went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI in Yankee Stadium on Tuesday.

Fielder is hitting just .217 with a career-low .346 slugging percentage, but has still driven in a respectable 40 runs in 73 games thanks to his continued place in the heart of a talented Rangers lineup. Perhaps the veteran slugger is gearing up for a second-half surge after having hit safely in 10 consecutive contests and scoring in five straight.

Rangers' Prince Fielder: Crushes seventh homer Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fielder went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and a walk Sunday against the Red Sox.

Fielder's seventh blast of the year moved the Rangers out to a four-run lead in the sixth inning of a game they'd go on to win. He's now hit safely in eight straight games and left the yard in two of his last three contests to move his slash line to .211/.282/.340.

Rangers' Prince Fielder: Out of lineup Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fielder is out of the lineup Sunday against the Cardinals, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Fielder hasn't shown many recent signs of breaking out of his season-long slumber, as he's gone a meager 2-for-14 over his last four starts. He'll get the day off Sunday and could be at risk of losing more at-bats now that the Rangers lineup is at close to full strength with the recent return of Shin-Soo Choo from the DL.

Rangers' Prince Fielder: Blasts second homer in five games
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fielder tied the game with ninth-inning home run on Saturday, giving him a pair of homers in his last five games and eight hits in his past 23 at-bats.

Fielder appears to have responded well for the few games on the bench late last week in an effort to end a prolonged slump. He could make for a decent buy-low option if his original owner had given up on him.

Rangers' Prince Fielder: Back in the lineup Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fielder is back in the lineup Monday against the Astros, Jeff Wilson of the Forth Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Fielder was held out of each of the last two games as he continues to struggle at the plate, but he'll return to action Monday at his usual first-base spot. The Rangers' leash for Fielder appears to have shortened, so if he's unable to turn things around, Mitch Moreland could see more regular playing time at first, with a handful of other players handling DH duties. Over the last three days, the Rangers have used both Jurickson Profar and Rougned Odor as the designated hitter.

Rangers' Prince Fielder: Benched for second straight game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fielder isn't in the lineup Sunday against the Mariners, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Wort Star-Telegram reports.

Fielder's season-long batting woes combined with the abundance of hitting talent on the Rangers' roster have forced manager Jeff Banister to make the tough decision to pull the veteran from the lineup for the second game in a row. With Rougned Odor back from suspension, the Rangers have kept Jurickson Profar's hot bat in the lineup by using him as DH, and that trend could continue until Profar cools down. Those who own Fielder in shallower formats ought to consider dropping him, giving his extensive struggles and the fact that regular at-bats may no longer be guaranteed.

Rangers' Prince Fielder: Hits third homer of season
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fielder went 1-for-4 with a home run and a strikeout against Pittsburgh on Sunday.

Fielder hit his third homer of the year, but he's been a massive disappointment this season. The 32-year-old slugger has hit .197 with a .574 OPS, and both marks are well below his career averages. One silver lining is that he's hit in eight of the past 10 games, so he could be starting to turn things around.

Rangers' Prince Fielder: Plates two in Friday victory over Astros
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Fielder went 1-for-3 with a two-run double in Friday's 2-1 victory over the Astros.

The veteran slugger came through with a third-inning double to deep left field that plated Shin-Soo-Choo and Ian Desmond for all the runs the Rangers would need. It was a much-needed positive development for Fielder, who's still only slashing .197/.265/.289 on the season. He's working on a modest three-game hitting streak and despite the considerable power drought has also managed to drive in 23 runs overall. He's a long way away from righting the ship though, as evidenced by the fact that his average has actually plummeted 10 points in May.
