Rangers' Bartolo Colon: Snags fourth win Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Colon (4-4) allowed three runs on nine hits and a walk with one strikeout through six innings in a win Monday over the Royals.

Colon pitched to contact and was able to survive by limiting the Royals to just two extra-base hits, a double and a triple. This marks his first quality start since May 26, which also came against the Royals. With Kansas City owning one of the worst lineups in the American League, that may not be a coincidence. Colon doesn't miss bats in his old age. He'll carry just a 5.5 K/9 and a 4.91 ERA into his next start Sunday against the Twins.

Rangers' Bartolo Colon: Hammered in Tuesday's loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Colon (3-4) allowed eight runs on nine hits, including three home runs, and one walk while striking out three over 3.1 innings in Tuesday's 12-5 loss to the Dodgers.

Colon was a nice story for the Rangers early in the season -- remember his duel with Houston's Justin Verlander in April when the 45-year-old was perfect into the eighth inning -- but there's nothing special about his performance as we enter the summer. The 45-year-old right-hander has a 6.11 ERA over his last 10 starts and leads MLB with 19 home runs allowed. He was never expected to be a starter when the Rangers signed him during the offseason, and he was certainly never expected to be second on the staff in innings, but that's state of pitching in the organization. There isn't much at the upper level of the minors, and manager Jeff Banister is mulling a decision to remove Matt Moore from the rotation, so it looks like Colon will make his next start scheduled for Monday in Kansas City.

Rangers' Bartolo Colon: Lasts five innings for third win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Colon (3-3) allowed two runs on six hits and two walks with one strikeout through five innings to pick up the win Wednesday over the Athletics.

It was hard work just to get through five frames for Colon, as he needed 97 pitches and managed just one swinging strike. Of the six hits he allowed, three went for extra bases. Colon buckled down in clutch situations, though, as he stranded six runners and kept the Athletics scoreless until he allowed a two-run home run to Khris Davis in the fifth inning. By that time, the Rangers owned a six-run lead and Colon was already cruising to the victory. He'll make his next start Tuesday against the Dodgers.

Rangers' Bartolo Colon: Will start Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Colon will have his next start moved up to Wednesday against the Athletics, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.

Colon was originally scheduled to pitch Thursday against the Astros, so the change brings about a much more favorable matchup for the veteran right-hander. The Rangers want to give Mike Minor an additional day of rest, and Monday's off day allows Colon to move up a day while still throwing on normal rest.

Rangers' Bartolo Colon: Falls to 2-3
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Colon (2-3) took the loss against the Angels on Friday, giving up six earned runs on eight hits over three innings. He struck out four and walked one in the Rangers' 6-0 loss.

This marked the second time in three starts Colon has been rocked for six earned runs, and he saw his ERA rise from 3.55 to 4.21 over 66.1 innings with this defeat to the Angels. Colon has shown this season that he's still capable of pumping out solid outings, and the fact that he's putting up a 1.03 WHIP and a 44:8 K:BB at age 45 is also pretty remarkable. However, his low-strikeout approach that centers around pounding the strike zone and pitching to contact means that he's also susceptible to outings like Friday's, making it difficult to predict what his numbers will look like from start to start.
