The Lakers still have some money to spend, and are reportedly looking in a number of directions. In addition to meeting with shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, the Lakers met with veteran point guard Rajon Rondo on Tuesday in Los Angeles, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Mark Medina of the L.A. Daily News confirmed the report, adding that a source told him the Lakers "expressed serious interest" in Rondo.

The Chicago Bulls bought out Rondo for $3 million on June 30 rather than exercising his $13.4 million option for next season. He then cleared waivers and became an unrestricted free agent. Tania Ganguli of the L.A. Times reports that the Lakers could offer Rondo, or another free agent, a one-year, $17 million deal if they so choose.

Lakers president of basketball operations Magic Johnson, who reportedly met with Rondo, has already said that Lonzo Ball is the face of the Lakers franchise moving forward. If signed, Rondo would likely be seen as a mentor to Ball, and the two could even play at the same time if Ball can shoot the 3-pointer as well as he did at UCLA.

Rondo was in and out of the Bulls' rotation last year, but was an integral part of Chicago taking a 2-0 lead on the top-seeded Boston Celtics in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs before he was forced to miss the rest of the series with a broken thumb. The 31-year-old is a four-time All-Star and won a title with the Celtics in 2008.
