  • Rockets' Jae'Sean Tate: Cashes in with three-year deal

Tate and the Rockets agreed to terms Thursday on a three-year, $22.1 million contract, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Earlier in the week, the Rockets declined Tate's team option for 2022-23 in order to facilitate signing him to this longer-term deal. As a result, Tate will go from making roughly $1.8 million to an average annual value of more than $7 million over the course of the deal. Undrafted out of Ohio State, Tate emerged as a key bench piece for Houston in 2020-21, when he averaged 11.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.9 made threes across 70 appearances. Tate essentially replicated that production last season, and the three-year agreement signals that Houston views the 26-year-old as part of its core. As of now, Tate projects to start at small forward as part of a lineup that will likely include Alperen Sengun, Jalen Green, Kevin Porter and No. 3 overall pick Jabari Smith.

  • Rockets' Jae'Sean Tate: Becomes restricted free agent

Tate had his $1.8 million team option declined by the Rockets on Wednesday, making him a restricted free agent, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. However, the two sides have a mutual interest in discussing a new deal. Tate has been one of Houston's staples over the past two seasons, starting 135 of his 148 appearances. Last year, he averaged 11.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists in 26.4 minutes. Given the Rockets' current roster makeup, it appears Tate would be in line to continue starting at small forward if he remains with the franchise.

  • Rockets' Jae'Sean Tate: Houston intends to pick up option

The Rockets intend to exercise the $1.9 million team option on Tate's contract, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports. Tate has spent both of his NBA seasons in Houston and averaged 11.8 points and 5.4 rebounds across 78 appearances last season. Houston selected two forwards -- Jabari Smith with the No. 3 overall pick and Tari Eason with the No. 17 pick -- in the 2022 NBA Draft, but it appears the Rockets still have a role for Tate during the upcoming season.

  • Rockets' Jae'Sean Tate: Finishes season on sour note

Tate racked up five points (2-4 FG, 1-1 3Pt), two rebounds, two assists and one block in 30 minutes during Sunday's 130-114 loss to Atlanta. Tate couldn't rack up any shot volume in the loss, resulting in one of his most meager totals of the season. Despite the disappointing final game, Tate's positional versatility should keep him around in Houston next season, unless their 2022 first-round pick makes him expendable.

  • Rockets' Jae'Sean Tate: Struggles from field in loss

Tate contributed six points (2-10 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-3 FT), nine rebounds, three assists and three steals over 29 minutes during Tuesday's 118-105 loss to the Nets. Tate has failed to score in double figures in three of his last four appearances, but he salvaged his poor offensive performance Tuesday by grabbing nine rebounds -- his most since Feb. 16 -- and recording at least three steals for the sixth time this season. The undrafted wing out of Ohio State is averaging 11.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists across 76 appearances this season, which is nearly identical to his averages from his rookie campaign.

  • Rockets' Jae'Sean Tate: Cleared for Sunday

Tate (ankle) is available for Sunday's game against the Pelicans, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports. Tate will return following a two-game absence, and Christian Wood (illness) will be back as well. Assuming both return to the starting lineup, Alperen Sengun and Kenyon Martin should head to the bench.

  • Rockets' Jae'Sean Tate: 'Looks like' he'll be out

Tate (ankle) is not expected to play Friday against the Mavericks, Ben DuBose of USA Today reports. Tate is still technically listed as questionable after missing the team's previous game, but coach Stephen Silas noted that it "looks like" he'll be out again Friday. Assuming that's the case, Kenyon Martin should grab another start.

  • Rockets' Jae'Sean Tate: Out vs. Lakers

Tate (ankle) is out for Wednesday's game against the Lakers, Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle reports. Houston is quite shorthanded in the frontcourt, as Christian Wood (illness) is also sidelined. That could lead to more minutes for Alperen Sengun, Kenyon Martin and David Nwaba.

  • Rockets' Jae'Sean Tate: Questionable with ankle soreness

Tate is questionable for Wednesday's game against the Lakers due to soreness in his left ankle, Alykhan Bijani of The Athletic reports. Tate suffered the injury during the March 2 loss to the Jazz but didn't have an injury designation for any of the past three contests. He averaged only 6.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 25.0 minutes during that three-game stretch, and his availability for Wednesday's matchup with Los Angeles is now in question.

  • Rockets' Jae'Sean Tate: Off injury report

Tate isn't listed on the Rockets' injury report Thursday, indicating he should play Friday against Denver, Ben DuBose of USA Todayreports. The forward seems on track to play against the Nuggets, with Kenyon Martin set to fill in off the bench.

  • Rockets' Jae'Sean Tate: Picks up ankle injury

Tate won't return to Wednesday's game against the Jazz due to left ankle soreness, Cayleigh Griffin of AT&T SportsNet Southwest reports. Tate took his usual place in the starting five Wednesday and appeared to suffer the injury early in the contest, though he attempted to return before officially being ruled out. The 26-year-old finished with nine points (3-6 FG, 3-5 3Pt) and one assist in 11 minutes, and he should be considered questionable for Friday's matchup with Denver until his status is updated.

  • Rockets' Jae'Sean Tate: Sniffs double-double in loss

Tate provided 12 points (4-8 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 2-4 FT), nine rebounds and two assists over 20 minutes during Tuesday's 113-100 loss to the Clippers. Tate was efficient from the floor and also contributed as a rebounder, as he ended just one board away from posting a double-double. The second-year forward also extended his streak of games with 10 or more points to seven appearances, and he's averaging 15.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game over that span.

  • Rockets' Jae'Sean Tate: Solid line in loss

Tate produced 14 points (6-11 FG, 2-4 3Pt), six rebounds, four assists and four steals in 32 minutes during Sunday's 99-98 loss to the Clippers. Tate's shot volume provided a nice day from the floor, and he also supplemented his line with great secondary numbers. His four steals Sunday matched a season-high for Tate, who will continue to be a solid fantasy producer as long as he's in a starting role.

  • Rockets' Jae'Sean Tate: Solid production against Orlando

Tate accumulated 13 points (6-11 FG, 1-2 3Pt), five rebounds, six assists, one block and two steals across 28 minutes before fouling out of Friday's 119-111 loss to the Magic. Tate didn't have any trips to the charity stripe during Friday's loss, but he shot 54.5 percent from the floor to score in double figures for a fifth consecutive game. He also tied for the team lead in assists and has now averaged 16.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 29.2 minutes per game across his last five appearances.

  • Rockets' Jae'Sean Tate: Provides edge for Team Barry

Tate totaled 12 points (4-4 FG, 4-7 FT), seven rebounds, one steal and one block across back-to-back wins during the Rising Stars competition at All-Star Weekend. Tate sealed the victory over Team Payton in the first leg of the new format with a difficult lefty layup. He maintained that energy in the championship contest and finished in a three-way tie with Cade Cunningham and Evan Mobley for a team-high five points.

  • Rockets' Jae'Sean Tate: Double-double against Suns

Tate scored 22 points (7-9 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 8-8 FT) while adding 10 rebounds and an assist in 28 minutes during Wednesday's 124-121 loss to the Suns. The double-double was Tate's seventh of the season and first in just over a month. Tate continues to be a solid contributor for the Rockets, averaging 12.7 points, 5.6 boards, 2.4 assists and 1.4 steals across seven games in February.

  • Rockets' Jae'Sean Tate: Gets 40 minutes in loss

Tate supplied 12 points (5-10 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-3 FT), six assists, five rebounds, one steal and one block across 40 minutes Thursday in the Rockets' 139-120 loss to the Raptors. Tate had seen most of his playing time at small forward in the Rockets' last two games, but with head coach Stephen Silas moving Alperen Sengun to the bench Thursday, the second-year player shifted up to power forward. Even though Eric Gordon (heel) remained sidelined for the third straight game, the Rockets didn't make Sengun (21 minutes) as much of a priority, allowing Tate to pick up some extra minutes after he logged 32 in both of the previous two contests. Tate was able to take advantage of the elevated run, contributing in each of the main fantasy categories except for three-pointers. He's now averaging 10.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 steals, 0.6 blocks and 0.4 three-pointers in 31.6 minutes per game over the Rockets' first five contests of February while shooting 73.3 percent from the free-throw line and 47.6 percent from the field. While he doesn't stand out in any one area, Tate's recent level of production makes him a low-end performer in 12-team leagues.

  • Rockets' Jae'Sean Tate: Scores 15 in loss

Tate ended Sunday's 120-107 loss to the Pelicans with 15 points (5-10 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 3-4 FT), three rebounds, one assist, two blocks and one steal across 32 minutes. Tate scored in double digits once again, and while he's gone seven straight contests without clearing the 15-point plateau, it's worth noting that he's scored in double digits in all but three games since the beginning of January. Tate is averaging 12.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game in that span.

  • Rockets' Jae'Sean Tate: Pitches in 18 points

Tate racked up 18 points (7-16 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 1-1 FT), five rebounds and two assists across 26 minutes during Wednesday's 116-111 win over the Jazz. Tate's steady production was on full display in the win. Although it's rare for Tate to lead the team in any particular category, he possesses one of the steadiest fantasy floors on the squad. His recent rebounding numbers have been especially good, as he's averaged 6.4 boards per game during the month of January.
