  • Nuggets' Jamal Murray: Aiming for preseason opener

Murray (knee) said Monday that he's planning to make his return to game action during the Nuggets' first preseason contest Oct. 7, Roy Ward of The Age reports.

Speaking at the opening of an NBA Store in Australia, Murray told local reporters that he continues to progress in his recovery and anticipates being on the floor when Denver kicks off its preseason schedule in Chicago against the Bulls. A torn ACL suffered in April of 2021 wiped out Murray's entire 2021-22 campaign, and it's been a long road back for the dynamic guard out of Kentucky. Initially, it appeared as though Murray may be able to return toward the end of last season, but he struggled to gain full confidence in the knee and ultimately did not rejoin the Nuggets before they were eliminated by the Warriors in Round 1 of the playoffs. Now roughly 16 months removed from the injury, Murray will still need to prove that he's back to his old self, so he'll likely come at a slight discount in early fantasy drafts.

  • Nuggets' Jamal Murray: Expected to be ready for season

General manager Calvin Booth intimated Monday that he believes Murray (knee) will be healthy to start the season, Sam Amico of Hoops Wire reports.

This news isn't too surprising given that Murray was practicing 5-on-5 with the Nuggets' Summer League team earlier this month. He missed the entire 2021-22 campaign while recovering from a torn ACL suffered in April of 2021. Fantasy managers should be wary of Murray potentially sitting out back-to-backs and being a little rusty, but he's still one of the better starting point guards in the NBA. Two seasons ago, he averaged 21.2 points, 4.8 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 35.5 minutes.

  • Nuggets' Jamal Murray: Practices with Summer League team

Murray (knee) took part in a 5-on-5 practice with the Nuggets' Summer League team Tuesday, Harrison Wind of DNVR Sports reports.

Murray missed the entirety of the 2021-22 campaign while recovering from a torn ACL, which he sustained in April of 2021. Initially, the guard was expected to return before the end of the regular season, but he appeared to encounter some issues regaining full confidence in the surgically repaired left knee. Now 14 months removed from the injury, Murray went through a full session Tuesday, which coach Michael Malone called "probably the most serious 5-on-5" he's played during the entire rehab process. "He looked mobile, agile and hostile," Malone continued. "He looked confident. That's the most important thing to me. I wasn't charting the makes and misses. I was trying to see the confidence level."

  • Nuggets' Jamal Murray: Not expected to play in playoffs

Murray (knee) is not expected to return during the playoffs, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.

This is a tough blow for the Nuggets, as Murray will likely end up missing the entire 2021-22 campaign after tearing his ACL in April of last season. The focus will now presumably be getting him on the right track to return first thing during next season's training camp. Michael Porter (back) is also not expected to return during the playoffs.
