  • Magic's R.J. Hampton: Finishes in double figures

Hampton posted 10 points (4-11 FG, 2-6 3Pt), four rebounds, one assist and one steal over 29 minutes during Friday's 107-99 loss to Philadelphia. Hampton got off to a strong start in this one, knocking down three of his first five attempts from the field in the first half. He's scored in double figures in two of his last three contests and has also recorded at least one steal in each matchup over this brief stretch. Hampton has logged 20-plus minutes in three straight games after averaging 14.4 minutes through his first 13 games of the 2022-23 campaign. However, with Markelle Fultz (toe) on the verge of a return, Hampton's role could be reduced.

  • Magic's R.J. Hampton: Fourth-year option declined

The Magic declined Hampton's $4.2 million team option for the 2023-24 season Monday, Keith Smith of Spotrac.com reports. Hampton has had an inconsistent role for Orlando early in the 2022-23 campaign, as he's averaged 5.3 points and 2.0 rebounds in 15.0 minutes per game. The 21-year-old will now become an unrestricted free agent following this season.

  • Magic's R.J. Hampton: Logs seven minutes Monday

Hampton amassed zero points (0-1 FG) across seven minutes during Monday's 115-102 loss to the Knicks. Hampton continues to find himself on the outside looking in when it comes to playing time, barely touching the floor in the loss. Given the Magic are still without two of their primary guard options, it's reasonable to assume Hampton could find himself out of the rotation completely at some point in the near future.

  • Magic's R.J. Hampton: Back in starting lineup

Hampton will start Sunday's game against the Heat, Dan Savage of the Magic's official site reports. With Jalen Suggs (ankle) sidelined again, Hampton will draw his 14th start of the season. Across his previous 13 starts, Hampton has averaged 7.8 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 27.4 minutes per game.

  • Magic's R.J. Hampton: Solid line off bench

Hampton registered 12 points (5-13 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 1-1 FT), eight rebounds and five assists in 35 minutes during Thursday's 128-101 loss to the Hornets. He also had four turnovers. Hampton has now supplied back-to-back double-digit scoring efforts four times this season. While he was inefficient Thursday, he led Orlando in rebounding and trailed only Markelle Fultz in assists. Hampton logged a team-high 35 minutes, but he's dragged down by his lowly 37.9 field-goal percentage.

Hampton will come off the bench during Tuesday's contest against the Cavaliers, Dan Savage of the Magic's official site reports. With Jalen Suggs returning from a 10-game absence due to an ankle injury, Hampton will revert to his usual bench role Tuesday. As a reserve this season (48 games), the second-year guard has averaged 7.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 19.8 minutes per game.

  • Magic's R.J. Hampton: Complies with mundane existence

Hampton supplied seven points (2-7 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), one rebound, two assists and one steal over 27 minutes during Wednesday's 127-110 loss to Washington. Averaging 7.3 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game this season, Hampton produced at his typical levels Wednesday. His player efficiency rating grades in the bottom-20 across all qualifying players. Luckily, supporting his case for development is the fact that Jalen Suggs also ranks among the bottom 20 in that figure. Nonetheless, outside of improved three-point shooting, Hampton has failed to show many signs of positive growth in year three.

  • Magic's R.J. Hampton: Adds 14 points Wednesday

Hampton tallied 14 points (5-11 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 2-2 FT), seven rebounds, one assist and one steal during Wednesday's 118-102 loss to the Thunder. Hampton logged his fifth straight start and finally rewarded the Magic coach staff with his first double-figure scoring performance since March 13 against the 76ers. The guard's seven rebounds were also the most he has totaled since grabbing eight against the Bulls on Jan. 3. Hampton is averaging 8.2 points since entering the starting five March 15.

Hampton provided five points (2-6 FG, 1-4 3Pt), three rebounds, five assists and three steals across 28 minutes during Tuesday's 94-90 victory over the Warriors. Hampton has started four straight games with Jalen Suggs (ankle) missing time. He tied his season-high three steals Tuesday while passing well, which helped counter his poor shooting. He's a deep-league streaming option while Suggs remains out.

  • Magic's R.J. Hampton: Meager output in loss

Hampton accumulated six points (2-8 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 1-2 FT), three rebounds and two assists in 31 minutes during Tuesday's 150-108 loss to the Nets. Hampton drew the start in place of Jalen Suggs (ankle), but he struggled to find any consistency during the blowout loss. With Jalen Suggs (ankle) sidelined, Hampton will move into the starting five for his third start since the All-Star break and just his fourth start of the entire season. • Magic's R.J. Hampton: Generates 11 points off bench

Hampton (ankle) ended with 11 points (3-7 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 4-6 FT), five rebounds, four assists and two blocks across 23 minutes during Friday's 119-111 win over Houston. Hampton hadn't suited up since Jan. 19 due to knee and ankle injuries, and he faced another setback following the All-Star break when he sprained his ankle during Friday's shootaround. However, he was able to appear off the bench against the Rockets, and he generated solid fantasy results with his well-rounded performance. Hampton has come off the bench in all but one of his appearances this season and has been a fairly inconsistent fantasy contributor.

  • Magic's R.J. Hampton: Available Friday

Hampton (ankle) is available for Friday's game against the Rockets. Hampton sprained his ankle during Friday's shootaround, but he'll be able to play through the issue against the Rockets after testing his injury during pregame warmups. He hasn't played since Jan. 19 due to knee and ankle injuries, so he could face a minutes restriction during his first game back on the court.

  • Magic's R.J. Hampton: Available against Rockets

Hampton (knee) is available for Friday's game against the Rockets, Khobi Price of the Orlando Sentinel reports. Hampton had been trending in the right direction as the All-Star break drew to a close, and coach Jamahl Mosley confirmed Thursday that the guard will be back in action against Houston. Hampton hasn't played since Jan. 19 due to his knee and ankle injuries, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him on a minutes restriction Friday.

  • Magic's R.J. Hampton: Expected to play Friday

Hampton (knee) is expected to play Friday against the Rockets, Dan Savage of the Magic's official site reports. Hampton has missed more than a month due to an MCL sprain and bone bruise to his left ankle that he sustained during the team's Jan. 19 loss to Philadelphia. However, he fully participated in practice Wednesday and will likely be available to return following the All-Star break. Assuming he's able to play, he'll likely have his workload monitored against the Rockets after his lengthy absence.

  • Magic's R.J. Hampton: Practices Wednesday

Hampton (knee) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice session, Dan Savage of the Magic's official site reports. Hampton has been sidelined since Jan. 21 due to an MCL sprain and bone bruise to his left ankle, but his participation in practice bodes well for his status for Friday's matchup against Houston. Since he's been sidelined for over a month, it wouldn't be surprising if he's on a minutes restriction if he's ultimately available once Orlando resumes play.

  • Magic's R.J. Hampton: Not ready to play Monday

Hampton (knee) won't be available for Monday's game in Denver. Orando has yet to provide much of an update regarding where Hampton stands in his recovery from the MCL sprain and bone bruise to his left ankle, which he sustained Jan. 19 in Philadelphia. Shortly after he suffered the injury, Hampton was given a loose recovery timetable of 2-to-4 weeks, and the second-year player is now approaching the longer side of that timeline. At this stage, the Magic appear likely to hold Hampton out through the All-Star break.

  • Magic's R.J. Hampton: Remains out Sunday

Hampton (knee) is listed as out for Sunday's game against the Celtics. Hampton is now two and a half weeks removed from sustaining an MCL sprain and a bone bruise of his left knee in the Magic's Jan. 19 loss to the 76ers. The Magic estimated that the injury would keep Hampton sidelined for 2-to-4 weeks, and with no word yet from the team that he's resumed practicing yet, he's seemingly trending toward the longer end of that timeline, if not beyond that.
