Payton produced 25 points (11-19 FG, 3-7 3Pt), 12 rebounds, two steals and one assist in 25 minutes during Wednesday's 115-100 victory over the Clippers.
Payton came out of nowhere to record his first career double-double in Wednesday's victory over the Clippers. He hasn't even been in the rotation until the last couple of games and this was a performance to remember for the young guard. Despite this outing, he remains a non-factor heading into next season.
Payton was assigned to the G-League on Saturday.
Despite being recalled by the Lakers on Friday, Payton didn't see the floor during their contest against the Heat later that night and will now be sent back to the G-League a day later. A stint there should provide the young guard more developmental opportunities and extended playing time. However, even when recalled, Payton is not a viable fantasy target.
Payton was recalled from the G-League's South Bay Lakers on Friday.
Payton, who is on a two-way contract, has seen just 146 minutes with Los Angeles this season, and has played only two minutes in the month of March. He's had a much more significant role in the G-League, where he's averaged 17.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.9 steals across 30.0 minutes.
Payton did not play during Sunday's loss to the Northern Arizona Suns because of a right knee injury.
It's unclear exactly when Payton is expected to return to action due to his knee injury, as South Bay's next game is Thursday. The sun of the former NBA great, Gary Payton, is averaging 17.5 points, 6.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists through 15 games played this season.
Payton had 28 points (11-17 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 6-8 FT), seven rebounds and seven assists during Thursday's 119-93 win over Agua Caliente.
This was the 25-year-old's highest scoring game with South Bay this season as he also provided a high total in rebounds and assists. Over his last three games, Payton is averaging a terrific 24.0 points and 5.7 rebounds. The one downfall of the second year player from Oregon State is that he is shooting only 25 percent from behind the arc this season.
