Timberwolves' Tayshaun Prince: Says he'll be back next season
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

When asked about his future Wednesday, Prince said he's "not going to retire," Kyle Ratke of Timberwolves.com reports.

After spending time between three teams - Boston, Detroit and Memphis - last season, Prince's career appeared to be winding down, but he signed with the Timberwolves in August and has appeared in 77 contests, making 44 starts and averaging 19.0 minutes per game. The 36-year-old only signed a one-year deal, so it's unclear if the Timberwolves will be interested in bringing him back. Regardless, it looks as though Prince is prepared to test the free agency waters this summer.

Timberwolves' Tayshaun Prince: No points in third straight game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Prince was held scoreless (0-2 FG, 0-1 3Pt) and grabbed a rebound in seven minutes during Tuesday's 124-117 overtime victory against the Warriors.

Prince has delivered a goose egg in the scoring column in three straight games and has seen his minutes count decrease in four consecutive contests. Shabazz Muhammad's outstanding scoring night (35 points) likely had a little to do with Prince's lack of usage Tuesday, but with the team intent on giving more playing time to younger players down the stretch, Prince probably won't see his minutes climb much from here.

Timberwolves' Tayshaun Prince: Plays 22 minutes in Wednesday's win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Prince provided six points (2-4 FG, 2-2 FT), three rebounds, two assists, and one steal across 22 minutes during the Timberwolves' 114-108 victory versus the Grizzlies on Wednesday.

After playing no less than 20 minutes per game in any individual month prior to February, Prince's minutes continue to plummet. He played 17 minutes per night in February, and is down to just 13 minutes per appearance in March. Prince also hadn't scored six points or more since Feb. 3, and he is not worth much consideration in fantasy.

Timberwolves' Tayshaun Prince: Doesn't play Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Prince did not play in Sunday's loss to Dallas due to a coach's decision.

With Minnesota moving to giving younger players more minutes, we'd expect a decreased role for Prince the rest of the season. He's still getting spot starts, but takes few shots as a defensive specialist no matter how much he plays.

Timberwolves' Tayshaun Prince: Will start in Wednesday's game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Prince will start in Wednesday's game against the Raptors, Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune reports.

Prince has been in and out of the starting lineup this season, and he'll be back in for Wednesday's game. Look for Andrew Wiggins to move to the shooting guard position and for Zach LaVine to come off the bench. It's unclear at this time if Prince will remain in the starting lineup for any games going forward.

Timberwolves' Tayshaun Prince: Probable to return Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Prince is probable to return Monday versus the Celtics after receiving six stitches due to a chin laceration.

It sounds like Prince avoided anything serious here, and should return without any setbacks after injuring his chin. This will likely have no effect on his status moving forward. Prince had recorded one assist in five minutes before being forced out of the game for stitches.

Timberwolves' Tayshaun Prince: Returns to starting lineup
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Prince started at small forward, but did not score and had three rebounds in 21 minutes in Saturday's loss to the Knicks.

Prince didn't play Friday due to a coach's decision and it looked like he may be completely phased out of the team's rotation in favor of younger players. However, it looks like he'll still get some starts. We'd expect his playing time to decline and he contributes almost nothing on offense as he's in the game primarily for his defense.

Timberwolves' Tayshaun Prince: Doesn't play Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Prince did not play in Friday's loss to Memphis due to a coach's decision.

It looks like Minnesota has decided to move Prince to the bench to give younger players more minutes in the second half of the season. Prince was a starter for most of the first half, but he may play a minimal role the rest of the season.

Timberwolves' Tayshaun Prince: Will miss Wednesday's game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Prince (personal) will not play Wednesday against the Raptors.

Prince will be attending Chauncey Billups' jersey retirement Wednesday night, therefore missing Minnesota's matchup against the Raptors. With Prince being sidelined, Zach LaVine could slide into the Timberwolves' starting lineup and Shabazz Muhammad could pick up some extra minutes.

Timberwolves' Tayshaun Prince: Scores eight points in loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Prince scored eight points (4-7 FG) to go with two assists, one rebound, and one steal across 20 minutes in Monday's 109-99 loss to the 76ers.

It's the most points that Prince has scored in four games, which illustrates just how infrequently he's involved in the T-Wolves' offense. Coach Sam Mitchell seems to value the defensive energy Prince brings, though, so the veteran may continue to hang on to a starting role at small forward, despite his lack of exciting fantasy production.

Timberwolves' Tayshaun Prince: Remains in starting lineup
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Prince started at small forward for a second consecutive game in Friday's win over Sacramento. He scored six points in 21 minutes.

It looks like Prince will be back in the starting lineup with Andrew Wiggins moving back to shooting guard. However, it won't change Prince's fantasy value much as he's the lineup for his defense. He took just four shots from the field Friday and didn't have a rebound or assist.

Timberwolves' Tayshaun Prince: Starting in Wednesday's game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Prince will start in Wednesday's game against the Knicks, Jerry Zgoda of the Star Tribune reports.

Prince is starting due to Kevin Martin (wrist) being inactive for the game. Martin had been playing through his wrist injury but is missing his first game with due to it. Prince will likely see an increase in minutes as long as Martin is out, and it's unclear for the time being when Martin will return.

December 12, 2015 12:16 PM
Timberwolves' Tayshaun Prince: Scoreless in 34 minutes
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Prince played 34 minutes in Friday's overtime loss to Denver, but did not score and was 0-for-5 from the field. He had four rebounds and two assists.

Prince had the second most minutes he's played this season, but his lack of scoring shows how he's almost one-dimensional as a defensive player. Nemanja Bjelica's early foul trouble likely got Prince more minutes than usual.

Timberwolves' Tayshaun Prince: Comes off bench Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Prince failed to score Monday as he moved to a bench role against the 76ers.

This was the first game this season that Prince didn't start for Minnesota, but even with a starting spot, his offensive production was nonexistent. He's only averaging 2.9 points and 2.4 rebounds per game through the first 14 contests, and it was a matter of time before the veteran was sent to the bench on this young and talented team.

Timberwolves' Tayshaun Prince: Moves to bench
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kevin Martin will move into the starting lineup Monday at shooting guard with Prince moving to the bench, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. Prince could see his playing time reduced to ten minutes per game. "It was never my intention for Tayshaun to play the amount of minutes [he has]," said head coach Sam Mitchell.

This may not have a huge impact on Prince's fantasy value as Martin (25 minutes per game) was already averaging more minutes per game than Prince (22 minutes per game). Prince still has primarily a defensive role as he's averaging just 3.2 points and 3.0 shots per game. Andrew Wiggins will move to small forward from shooting guard as a result.

Timberwolves' Tayshaun Prince: Starting, but seeing light minutes
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Prince failed to score a point (0-1 FG) and collected four rebounds and two assists over 13 minutes in Tuesday's win over the Heat.

Prince has started at small forward for all 11 of the Wolves' games this season, but for fantasy purposes that hasn't meant much. He's typically not seeing the playing time normally associated with a starting role, as he's failed to receive more than 20 minutes in three of the team's last four games. Reserve players such as Zach LaVine, Kevin Martin, and Nemanja Bjelica -- all of whom bring more offensive upside to the table -- are probably more worthy fantasy investments than the defense-first Prince.

Timberwolves' Tayshaun Prince: Season-high 39 minutes
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Prince scored eight points with five rebounds and a blocked shot in 38 minutes in Saturday's overtime win over Chicago.

Prince had a season-high in minutes and shots attempted (4-of-9 from the field) as he got more playing time with Kevin Martin missing the game due to a personal issue. Don't expect Prince to keep up this pace as the T-Wolves will likely want to moderate the 35-year old's minutes.

October 31, 2015 08:19 PM
Timberwolves' Tayshaun Prince: Scores just two points in 29 minutes
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Prince scored two points with three rebounds, two assists and two steals in 29 minutes in Friday's win over Denver.

Despite starting at small forward, Prince has taken just three shots from the field in two games. He's getting the starting nod for his defense (he's +13 in two games), but won't contribute many points, assists or rebounds.

October 24, 2015 09:45 AM
Timberwolves' Tayshaun Prince: Starts again at small forward
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Prince is likely to begin the season at small forward, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. He started at small forward for a third consecutive preseason game Friday and scored four points with two rebounds in 16 minutes.

With Andrew Wiggins moving to shooting guard, head coach Sam Mitchell wants to keep Prince in the starting lineup since it allows Prince to defend the opponent's more physical offensive player. However at age 35, it's not clear if Prince can play more than 15 minutes per game. As a result, he may be more of a nominal starter with Shabazz Muhammad getting more minutes at small forward off the bench. Prince may also not take many shots since he'll be in the lineup for his defense.

Timberwolves' Tayshaun Prince: Could open season in starting lineup
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Prince picked up the start at small forward for the Timberwolves in Tuesday's preseason loss to the Bucks. He attempted just one shot before leaving after five minutes due to an upset stomach, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune's Jerry Zgoda reports.

The stomach illness isn't anything that will jeopardize Prince's availability for the preseason finale Friday against Milwaukee, but more notable than his early departure was the fact that he was deployed in a starting role. In light of the struggles of second-year man Zach LaVine and veteran Kevin Martin (who shot 0-for-10 from the field Tuesday), it appears interim coach Sam Mitchell will turn to Andrew Wiggins as his starting shooting guard, creating an opening at small forward. Prior to the game, Mitchell told Zgoda that Prince, Shabazz Muhammad, and Damjan Rudez were all being viewed as options for the starting role once the regular season begins, and Prince's deployment in the lineup Tuesday should make him the clubhouse favorite of the trio. However, after seeing his playing time fall below 25 minutes per game last season for the first time since 2002-03, look for Muhammad and/or Rudez to remain factors in Mitchell's rotation off the bench.
