Pat McAfee's stand-up show was apparently a big success. (Indianapolis Star)

Apparently, launching footballs off his foot is not Pat McAfee's only skill. The Indianapolis punter put on a stand-up comedy special (Pat McAfee: Uncaged) at the Palladium in Carmel, IN over the weekend. According to ESPN, there were two shows, both of which sold out, and the proceeds went to the Pat McAfee Foundation, which is "a nonprofit organization that’s dedicated to providing academic scholarships to children of U.S. military personnel."

According to the Indianapolis Star, McAfee joked about (among other things) his introduction to Peyton Manning, the time a lion got loose on the West Virginia campus, the New England Patriots, and why he chose the number 1.

Meeting Manning

“And then this man off in the distance in the back of the locker room,” McAfee said. “He had that light around him. He had this walk like Elvis, (he) walks up and he goes, ‘Hey. Peyton Manning.’ ”

McAfee responded, “I’m Pat.”

“Can’t wait to watch you punt a ball,” Manning said to him.

“In the back of my head, I’m going, ‘Me neither, man,’ ” McAfee said.

Encounters with circus lions

As he woke up in a fog and looked at his laptop, there was an urgent email. Over the weekend, a circus had come to town and an African lion escaped. They didn’t know the lion’s whereabouts.

“Just giving you a heads up,” the email read. Classes were still on.

“A heads up? You give a heads up like when a road’s closed or when a stop sign’s fell ... but when Mufasa is running around town? Classes should be canceled, alright?” McAfee said. “But they weren’t. I guess they didn’t see it as big a threat as I did.”

The Patriots

"I don’t like cheaters. I keep my balls fully inflated,” McAfee said.

Screams of delight erupted from the crowd.

“Too easy,” McAfee said.

His jersey number

When he was drafted by the Colts, he got a call from Bill Polian, who welcomed him as a punter. As he ended the call, Polian told McAfee all he had to do was stay out of trouble. McAfee was then put on the phone with an assistant to iron out the details. One question she asked: What number did he want on his jersey?

About that time, his dad comes screaming into the room, having seen that McAfee had been drafted by the Colts. He couldn’t hear the woman well and so as she rattled off numbers, he took the first one she said. No. 1.

“What’s the significance of No. 1? I just really wanted to get (expletive deleted)-faced with my family.”

And his 2010 arrest

Speaking of swimming, McAfee finally gave a little insight into what “allegedly” happened that night back in 2010 when he was arrested for public intoxication in Broad Ripple after being found sopping wet by police.

“So there I was walking down a street in Broad Ripple, shirtless and cold as hell,” he said. “I checked my right pocket where my cell phone’s at. Dead. Water damage. Apparent water damage. I check my left pocket. $700. I left the house with $200. I now have $700. If you know how I got that extra $500, you just go ahead and shut up.”

Maybe it's just me, but these seem sort of like "you had to be there" kind of jokes.

Anyway, this wasn't the first time McAfee tried his hand at comedy. Back in January, he appeared in a comedy short where he went to "work" for his "agent," helping him "sell" a film script.
