Crabtree left 49ers because he needed QB 'who could deliver the ball'
Michael Crabtree seems to think Derek Carr is a better quarterback than Colin Kaepernick.
When Michael Crabtree hit free agency in March, he could've stayed with the 49ers, but he didn't, because apparently, he didn't want to catch passes from Colin Kaepernick anymore.
The Raiders wide receiver said this week that he ended up signing with Oakland because of the quarterback situation.
"I needed new scenery. It wasn't for me," Crabtree told the San Francisco Chronicle. "I needed a quarterback that can deliver the ball, and that was hungry like I was."
That's where Derek Carr comes in.
Crabtree is a fan of the Raiders second-year quarterback and yes, the feeling is very mutual.
"He's awesome, one of the coolest people I've ever been around," Carr said. "He makes catching look really boring and easy. It's like catching the ball is something he has to do so he can have it. I can't say enough good things about him."
So how bad did Crabtree want to play with Carr and get out of San Francisco?
The Raiders wide receiver says that the 49ers actually offered him more money than Oakland did.
"A lot of people don't know that the Niners offered me a contract, I just didn't take it," Crabtree said. "I wanted a fresh start. It was more money too -- the Niners offered me more money than anybody did -- but business is business and I wanted to come to a team that really wanted and needed me."
Crabtree, who ended up signing a one-year, $3.2 million deal with the Raiders, will make his debut with Oakland on Sunday against the Bengals.
The Raiders wide receiver spent six years with the 49ers before signing with Oakland in April.
