Here's what Eagles quarterback Michael Vick said Tuesday: "I think we have a chance to develop a dynasty." He was speaking to CSNPhilly.com's Derrick Gunn about not just the 2012 season but beyond.

"When I look at our football team and what we have on paper, I think about when I was growing up and the great San Francisco 49er teams, the great Green Bay Packer teams, and the great Dallas Cowboy teams, how they just positioned themselves to compete and be one of the best teams out there,” Vick said. “I think we have a chance to be that." 

Hey, at least Vick didn't drop a "Dream Team" reference. That said, his comments will undoubtedly be scrutinized by fans of the other three NFC East teams, as well as critics quick to point out that Philly managed just eight wins last season after assembling -- on paper, anyway -- one of the league's best teams.

In May, Vick was asked about the possibility of coach Andy Reid losing his job, something that came up frequently during last season's disappointing run to .500.

"I hate to think about it," he said at the time. "… Let's just say that won't happen. Not on my watch. And I'll say that in front of the whole world."

So with Reid's job security taken care of Vick can concentrate not only on getting the Eagles back to the playoffs, but making them perennial postseason participants.

"I think it's just a mind-set for my organization on down to the players," he said. "We know we can do it. We know what we have, that's the great thing about it. We know what we have as a team, as an organization and what better position to be in than to know that you have an opportunity? …

"I just have to make everyone on the outside looking in a believer," Vick continued. "It's going to be tough, but it's all about discipline and I can't get out on the field making crazy, hasty decisions when there's no need to, so I'm focused. I'm ready to go." 

Vick said earlier this summer that this was the first time in his NFL career that he took the offseason seriously. And this week, when he wasn't being mistaken for former Eagles backup Jarrod Johnson, Vick conceded that during the height of his involvement in dogfighting, "I may have become more dedicated to the deep study of dogs than I was to my Falcons playbook. I became better at reading dogs than reading defenses."

So while Vick thinks the Eagles have a chance to be a dynasty, he also seems to understand that it'll require more than wishing it true. "We believe that we have a lot to accomplish, and we believe we can do it," he told Gunn. "And I think that's where it all starts, with your faith.”
