Michael Sam among last cuts by Rams despite strong stats

Defensive end Michael Sam, who became a notable figure in the preseason as the first openly gay player in the NFL, did not survive the final cuts Saturday by the Rams.

Sam led the team in the preseason with three sacks and was among its leaders with 11 total tackles. He has expressed confidence that he will be playing for some NFL team this fall.
