Nnamdi Asomugha is no longer an All-Pro cornerback. He's not even a starter for the 49ers. That distinction belongs to Carlos Rogers and Tarell Brown. But sources have told CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora that Asomugha will make the team.

Asomugha, who would likely serve as the third cornerback, hooked on with San Francisco in the offseason after he was released by Philadelphia two years after signing a five-year, $60 million contract. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio expressed hope in August that the 32-year-old Asomugha would recapture some of the skills that made him one of the premier players in the NFL.

"We really didn't know what we were getting when we got Nnamdi," he told CBSBayArea.com. "He's had some good days out here and some days when we weren't sure if he'd be able to still have it. I think we're kind of in-between on him right now. Hopefully, he'll still be able to have some gas left in his tank."
