Green Bay's signing of Ina Liaina, a true blocking fullback, indicates the Packers "may see a need for someone who can destroy linebackers before they get their hands on bruising halfback Eddie Lacy," reports the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Fullback John Kuhn, an impending free agent, was used more as a third-down pass blocker than a lead blocker.
The Packers trailed San Francisco 20-17 in the playoffs when they faced 1st-and-goal from the 9-yard line with just over six minutes left. They ran the ball with receiver Randall Cobb and tried two passes before settling for a field goal. Lacy did not get the ball.
Now, at least, Green Bay has a fullback on the roster.
