Russell Wilson responds to Aaron Rodgers' postgame 'God' comment
God might need to intervene in the feud that appears to be developing between Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson
If Aaron Rodgers thinks God is a Packers fan, then Russell Wilson is going to let him think that.
During his weekly media session on Thursday, Wilson was asked about Rodgers' postgame "God" comment that the Packers quarterback made on Sunday.
After Green Bay's 27-17 win, Rodgers said "God was a Packers fan tonight."
Wilson doesn't sound like he agrees with Rodgers' take, but he did say that everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
"I think that in terms of that comment and all that, everybody has the right to their own opinion," Wilson said, via KIRO-AM in Seattle. "I know for me, I'm just grateful that God has given me the opportunity to play the great game of football. I'm so grateful."
Wilson, who rarely says anything controversial, might have also snuck in a subtle jab at Rodgers.
"I know one of the things my parents always taught me was just to continue to remain humble in your victories and your losses," Wilson said. "I think that's just the thing that I'm grateful for, just to be able to play the game of football. I love it. Like I said, everybody is entitled to their own opinion."
Rodgers' "God" comment was taken by most as a subtle jab at Wilson, who said after the NFC title game that God set up the Seahawks' 28-22 overtime win.
"That's God setting it up, to make it so dramatic, so rewarding, so special," Wilson said back in January.
The day after the title game, Rodgers had a different take than Wilson: "I don't think God cares a whole lot about the outcome," the Packers quarterback said.
