Taylor spent last season on the practice squads of San Francisco, Seattle and Kansas City. The University of Florida product is not really battling for a running back spot since the Devonta Freeman-Tevin Coleman handcuff has proved more than adequate, so he'll likely try taking on Brian Hill for the job as a situational back and returner.

Taylor signed with Seattle's practice squad two weeks ago, and he is now set to join the roster with Troymaine Pope (ankle) banged up heading into Thursday's matchup with the Rams. Taylor rushed for a team-high 47 yards on 10 carries Saturday.
Taylor did all of his work in the second half against backup defenders, so we shouldn't read too much into the production. He did show his inexperience in the fourth quarter when he ran out of bounds as the 49ers were trying to milk the clock. Plays like that are a good indicator that Taylor is likely headed for the 49ers' practice squad to work on his craft.

The 49ers selected Taylor in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, 211th overall.
San Francisco built up their secondary and lines on both sides of the ball with their first seven picks, but it turned its attention to addressing skill players in the late rounds. Taylor, the son of former Jaguars great Fred Taylor, followed in his father's footsteps and put together a solid all-around career at Florida. He ran for 1,035 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2015, but he averaged just 4.0 yards per carry. With such low explosiveness at the college level, it's difficult to imagine Taylor having a smooth transition at the next level. He'll need to make a strong impression in training camp for the 49ers to consider carrying him on the 53-man roster.
