Dexter McCoil: Lands with Chargers' practice squad
The Chargers signed McCoil to their practice squad Wednesday, Eric D. Williams of ESPN.com reports.
McCoil played a couple years in the CFL after going undrafted out of Tusla and then played 18 games with the Chargers between 2016 and 2017. The 27-year-old could receive a promotion to the 53-man roster should the team need an additional help in the secondary during the playoffs.

Dexter McCoil: Waived with non-football injury Monday
McCoil (undisclosed) was waived with a non-football injury by the 49ers on Monday, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
The 49ers currently have a total of eight safeties on the roster in the midst of the offseason program. With an influx of players both during and after the draft, there wasn't enough room on the 90-man roster to keep McCoil any longer.

49ers' Dexter McCoil: Claimed by 49ers
McCoil was claimed off waivers by the 49ers on Monday, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
McCoil was waived by the Chargers on Saturday and went unclaimed by at most two teams, with San Francisco becoming his new home. The 26-year-old will likely begin in a reserve role at defensive back, but he could earn snaps quickly with the numerous injuries plaguing the 49ers secondary.

Chargers' Dexter McCoil: Earns first start of career
McCoil picked up six tackles (five solo) in the loss to the Saints on Sunday.
McCoil, starting in place of the injured Jahleel Addae (broken collarbone), played admirably, picking up a handful of tackles. While backup safety Adrian Phillips recorded one of two interceptions by the Chargers secondary Sunday, McCoil was able to record more snaps. Neither McCoil nor Phillips looks to be an entirely reliable option in IDP leagues, but both could have their moments in the coming weeks.
