  • Jets' Tony Adams: DNP to start week

Adams (groin) was a non-participant at Wednesday's practice, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Adams sustained this groin injury during last week's win over the Falcons. The veteran safety started each of the last four games and produced 23 tackles (16 solo), two pass breakups and 1.0 sacks. If he can't shake this injury for this Sunday's game versus the Dolphins, Isaiah Oliver should start at free safety.

  • Jets' Tony Adams: Logs six stops in Week 11

Adams recorded six total tackles (three solo) during Thursday night's 27-14 loss to the Patriots. Since returning to a starting role in the Jets' Week 10 win over the Browns, Adams has tallied 15 total tackles and one pass defended over just two contests. He's likely to remain one of New York's top tacklers and defensive playmakers while starting alongside rookie Malachi Moore in the Week 12 matchup against the Ravens.

  • Jets' Tony Adams: In line for starting role

Adams is expected to start at free safety due to Andre Cisco (pectoral) being sidelined for the rest of the season, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Adams opened the season as a starter alongside Cisco in the Jets' secondary before rookie Malachi Moore replaced him at strong safety in the Week 6 loss to the Broncos. With Cisco set to miss the remainder of the the season, Adams appears positioned to assume a starting role once again. The Illinois product has plenty of experience, having made 30 starts for the Jets over the past three seasons. Expect Adams to take over at free safety in the Week 10 matchup against the Browns.

Adams (hip) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers. Per Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, look for Malachi Moore to draw the start in place of Adams on Sunday. Adams' next chance to play will arrive Sept. 29 against the Dolphins.

  • Jets' Tony Adams: Listed as questionable

Adams (hip) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Bucs, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. After logging a DNP on Wednesday, Adams posted back-to-back limited practices Thursday and Friday, putting him in solid position to play Sunday. Malachi Moore and Isaiah Oliver would likely be next up for playing time if Adams needs to sit out.

  • Jets' Tony Adams: Officially back with Jets

Adams signed his restricted free-agent tender with the Jets on Friday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Adams will return to the Jets on a one-year contract, which the team offered him in March. He has appeared in 30 games over the past two seasons, starting all but four of those while compiling 166 tackles and 11 passes defensed over that span. Adams can tentatively be penciled in as the starting strong safety heading into 2025, though the Jets could still add competition via the draft or free agency.

  • Jets' Tony Adams: Logs career-high tackle total

Adams registered 84 tackles (42 solo), including 1.0 sacks, along with six pass defenses (one of which was an interception) over 15 games (11 starts) during the 2024 campaign. Despite recording 143 fewer defense snaps than in 2023, Adams increased his tackle total by two. He also had one more pass defense than in the previous campaign, though he finished with two fewer interceptions. Adams was somewhat surprisingly taken out of the starting lineup Weeks 11-14, though he returned to the starting unit for New York's final three games after Jalen Mills was placed on IR due to a collarbone injury. Adams will be a restricted free agent upon the start of the offseason, and given his late-season demotion, it's uncertain if he'll be back with the club for another campaign.
