  • Simmie Cobbs: Let go by Saints

Cobbs was waived by the Saints on Friday, Mike Triplett of ESPN.com reports.

Cobbs was considered on the final 53-man roster bubble, but he ultimately did not make the cut. An undrafted rookie in 2018, he spent time on the Saints' practice squad, and he figures to do so again assuming he does not find a new destination. He led the team in both targets and receptions in their final preseason game against the Dolphins.

  • Saints' Simmie Cobbs: Leads Saints in catches

Cobbs caught six of seven targets for 42 yards in Thursday's preseason loss to the Dolphins.

The receptions and targets both led the team on the night, although Cobbs' 6.0 yards per target was pedestrian at best. An undrafted rookie free agent out of Indiana last year, he has the size to be a red-zone and possession option for Drew Brees -- provided he did enough this preseason to claim a depth WR spot on the 53-man roster.

  • Saints' Simmie Cobbs: Moves to injured reserve

Cobbs (knee) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Brett Martel of the Associated Press reports.

Cobbs was signed by the Saints in mid-December but was never active for a game, and had recently been dealing with the knee issue. The team signed tight end Garrett Griffin to replace him on the 53-man roster.

  • Saints' Simmie Cobbs: Won't play Sunday

Cobbs (knee) is ruled out for Sunday's divisional-round playoff game against the Eagles, Nick Underhill of The New Orleans Advocate reports.

Cobbs has not been active for the Saints since joining the team in mid-December, and he is now nursing a knee injury of undisclosed severity. New Orleans' offense won't be impacted by the undrafted rookie's absence.

  • Saints' Simmie Cobbs: Signed by Saints

Cobbs was signed by the Saints from the Redskins' practice squad Friday, Nick Underhill of The New Orleans Advocate reports.

Cobbs was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Redskins in April and found a spot on their practice squad in September. The rookie caught 72 passes for 841 yards last season as a junior at Indiana. Cobbs also caught seven passes for 109 yards and a touchdown this past preseason.

  • Simmie Cobbs: Placed on practice squad

Cobbs has a spot on Washington's practice squad, Les Carpenter of The Washington Post reports.

The undrafted rookie out of Indiana caught seven passes for 109 yards and a touchdown during the preseason, coming up just a bit short in a roster battle with Trey Quinn and Cam Sims. The Redskins will let Cobbs develop on their practice squad, with potential for a midseason call-up if the team struggles to stay healthy at wide receiver.
