The Colts opted to part ways with Anderson in exchange for a seventh round draft pick. Anderson figures to provide added depth at the defensive end position for New York. The Jets have said goodbye to the likes of Muhammad Wilkerson, Sheldon Richardson and Kony Ealy within the calendar year. While Anderson isn't expected to contribute at an All-Pro level, the Jets hope he'll be able to pick up some of the slack left behind from key departures.
Anderson (throat) has been cleared to participate in offseason workouts, Zak Keefer of The Indianapolis Star reports.
Anderson sustained a laryngeal fracture in Week 9 of last season and spent the remainder of the campaign on injured reserve. Now healthy and ready to go, Anderson should be available for the start of the Colts' offseason program that kicked off Monday. However, with new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus switching the team's base defense from a 3-4 to a 4-3 front, Anderson's role for the 2018 season isn't certain. According to Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News, Anderson expects to remain at defensive end on early downs but envisions himself moving to the interior on passing downs.
Anderson sustained a laryngeal fracture during Sunday's win over Houston and will be placed on injured reserve, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
At this point in the season, Anderson will be unable to return by Week 17 once he undergoes surgery Friday. Oft-injured throughout his three-year career, the defensive tackle has appeared in just 29 games, accruing 65 tackles (43 solo), three sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Expect some combination of Margus Hunt and Hassan Ridgeway to cover the gap left behind by Anderson on the defensive front.
Anderson had seven tackles, a sack, three tackles for a loss and blocked a field-goal attempt in Sunday's loss at Cincinnati. He's been more of a focus on the defensive line with the coaching staff moving him around to exploit matchups, the Indianapolis Star reports.
Anderson has two sacks and appears to have some upside in the pass rush. He's showing the promise he had in 2015 as a rookie before a knee injury limited him the past two years.
