Whitehead (hip) was released by the Packers on Saturday.
It's not clear if Whitehead's hip injury is still an issue, but he is healthy enough to remain with Green Bay, and was added to the team's practice squad.
Whitehead is currently nursing a hip injury, Rob Demovsky of ESPN reports.
Whitehead played two games for the Packers last season, but spent the majority of the year on the practice squad. He is looking to make an impression during training camp, but is seemingly on track to fall short of the final roster.
The Packers opted to release Whitehead on Monday, Michael Cohen of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Whitehead was just promoted from the practice squad prior to Week 8, so his stint with the active roster was short-lived. The Packers were attempting to add depth to their thin backfield, as they subsequently promoted fullback Joe Kerridge from the practice squad in a corresponding roster move.
Whitehead was promoted from the Packers' practice squad to their active roster Monday.
Safety Chris Banjo was placed on injured reserve Monday, which resulted in the open roster spot for Whitehead. The second year safety played briefly for the Ravens in 2015, before entering training camp with the Packers this year. He ultimately was waived prior to the season starting. Expect Whitehead to provide depth at safety and contribute to special teams.
