Ximines is starting against the Vikings in Week 5, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
Ximines has seen significant work as a a backup this season, playing a majority of defensive snaps the past two weeks. With Lorenzo Carter (neck) inactive, Ximines is drawing the spot start and he'll figure to see an increase in workload for the day.
Ximines recorded three tackles, a half-sack and a pass defensed across 30 defensive snaps in Sunday's win over the Redskins.
The rookie now has 10 tackles and two sacks on the season while playing in just under 40 percent of the team's defensive reps. However, Ximines has seen a slight uptick in reps the past two weeks, a trend that could continue as the season progresses.
Ximines recorded four tackles, all solo, and a sack across 40 defensive snaps in Sunday's win over the Buccaneers.
The third-round selection in April's draft has fared well thus far -- as he now has seven tackles and 1.5 sacks through his first three games while playing in less than 40 percent of the defensive snaps. If he can continue to play at this level, look for his reps to increase down the road.
The Giants selected Ximines in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, 95th overall.
Ximines becomes the first player from Old Dominion ever selected in the NFL Draft. At 6-foot-4, 253 pounds, he profiles as an outside linebacker for defensive coordinator James Bettcher's 3-4 scheme, and at the combine he posted slightly above-average numbers in the 40 (4.78 seconds), vertical (34 inches), and broad jump (118 inches). His production couldn't have been much better for the Monarchs, as he exceeded double-digit tackles for loss in each of the past three years. He'll compete with Markus Golden, Kareem Martin and Lorenzo Carter for snaps.
