Texans' Jacob Martin: Back from COVID-19 list
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Texans activated Martin (illness) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday, Aaron Wilson of The Houston Chronicle reports.

Martin tested positive prior to a Week 9 matchup against the Jaguars, but he's recovered and will return to team activities moving forward. The Texans' linebacker corps has gotten pretty banged up this year, including Brennan Scarlett (forearm) being placed on IR, so Martin could battle for a starting role moving forward.

by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Coach Romeo Crennell said Monday that Martin (illness) will stay on the reserve/COVID-19 list for the Week 10 matchup against the Browns, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Martin tested positive last Wednesday and will miss at least two games as a result. Crennel did reveal that Whitney Mercilus and Dylan Cole, who were considered close contacts to Martin, are expected to return this week. Martin will aim to get back in action in Week 11 against the Patriots.

Texans' Jacob Martin: Tests positive for COVID-19
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday after testing positive for the virus, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The Texans will work virtually Thursday as a result. Martin won't be available for Sunday's game versus the Jaguars, but he could return Week 10 if he clears the league's COVID-19 protocols.

Texans' Jacob Martin: Records sack off edge
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin had two tackles and one sack in Thursday's 34-20 loss to the Chiefs.

Martin came off the edge and got to Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes on the Chiefs' first drive, taking them out of field-goal range. During training camp, Texans defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver talked about a larger role for Martin, who recorded 3.5 sacks while playing 21 percent of the snaps on defense in 2019, but the edge rusher played just 18 snaps (26 percent) Thursday.

Texans' Jacob Martin: Shows off speed in scrimmage
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin scooped up a fumble and ran it in for a touchdown during Thursday's scrimmage, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Martin is a budding IDP candidate for the Texans and is expected to play a larger role in 2020. He played just 221 defensive snaps (21 percent) in 2019 but contributed 3.5 sacks. He'll be on the field in all passing situations and could get more snaps if he establishes himself against the run.

Texans' Jacob Martin: More comfortable in Year 2
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin is expected to play more during his second season with the Texans, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Martin, who joined the Texans from Seattle in the Jadeveon Clowney trade, used his quickness off the edge to record 3.5 sacks in 223 defensive snaps, which was 20.5 percent of the snaps. It's natural he'll get more playing time in 2020. He joined the Texans on Aug. 31 last year, days before the regular season, and had to learn a whole new system. "He's definitely more comfortable in our system," head coach Bill O'Brien said. "Coming into our system, some things (were) different. He's done a good job of picking that up. He's had a great camp." Martin will remain a backup at both outside linebacker spots, behind Whitney Mercilus and Brennan Scarlett, but Martin will be on the field in passing situations.

Texans' Jacob Martin: Records sack, recovers fumble
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin had one tackle, one sack, two quarterback hits and recovered a fumble in Saturday's 22-19 overtime win over the Bills in an AFC wild-card playoff game.

Martin's fumble recovery led to a Ka'imi Fairbairn field goal early in the fourth quarter, and he later snuffed out a Bills' drive with a fourth-down sack of quarterback Josh Allen. Martin's a depth linebacker who has come on late in the season, recording 4.5 sacks over the last five games played.

Texans' Jacob Martin: Ready for wild-card round
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Texans' Jacob Martin: Sitting out Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin (knee) is officially inactive for Sunday's game against the Titans.

Martin was a limited participant in practice this week, and with the Texans already having the division wrapped up, they decided to hold Martin out. It will be his second straight game missed. With the Temple product sidelined, Barkevious Mingo is expected to see some extra snaps.

Texans' Jacob Martin: Questionable for Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin (knee) is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Titans.

Martin was limited in practice throughout the week, which was an upgrade from last week when he was unable to see any practice time. His status will be revealed closer to Sunday's 4:25 ET kickoff, and if Martin is forced to miss his second straight game, Barkevious Mingo could be looking at some extra snaps.

Texans' Jacob Martin: Managing knee injury
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin didn't practice Tuesday due to a knee injury.

Martin apparently suffered the injury during Sunday's win over the Titans, and he saw his three-game sack streak come to an end. The 24-year-old likely will need to return to practice in the next two days to have a legitimate chance of suiting up Week 16.

Texans' Jacob Martin: Role set to expand
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin's role on defense could expand with the loss of J.J. Watt (pectoral) to season-ending injury, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Martin, who joined the Texans from Seattle in the Jadeveon Clowney trade, has contributed mostly on special teams with minimal work on defense until now. He recorded Houston's lone quarterback hit in Week 8's win over Oakland. While he's not a defensive end by trade, the edge linebacker will be part of a crew that gets increased playing time in the absence of Watt. "Jacob works very hard, he plays hard, he practices hard," coach Bill O'Brien said. "He tries to do everything right. He's a really good teammate, very smart. We move him around a lot. He helps us on special teams, helps us on defense." Seattle's sixth-round draft pick in 2018 out of Temple, Martin had three sacks in his rookie season.

Texans' Jacob Martin: Traded to the Texans
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin and Barkevious Mingo will be traded to the Texans from the Seahawks along with a third-round pick upon passing a physical in the Jadeveon Clowney deal, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Texans fans won't exactly be happy with the lack of star power coming back in the trade, but Martin proved serviceable as a depth linebacker last season for the Seahawks and figures to immediately compete with Brennan Scarlett for a starting role along with the recently acquired Mingo.

Seahawks' Jacob Martin: Sees heightened role late in season
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Martin made 10 tackles (eight solo), three sacks and forced two fumbles in the 2018 season.

The rookie sixth-round pick spent most of the year developing his craft behind a mix of Barkevious Mingo, K.J. Wright and Mychal Kendricks (knee), but Martin passed Mingo in the pecking order over the final two games, including the playoff loss to Dallas. He proved to be a skilled pass rusher and made more sacks than any other Seahawks linebacker. Martin will look to earn a more consistent role in 2019.
