Chargers' Jerry Tillery: Shifting to defensive end Week 12
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillery is in line to start at defensive end Sunday against the Bills, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.

The Chargers have been decimated by injuries at the defensive end spot. Melvin Ingram (knee) landed on injured reserve Friday, while Uchenna Nwosu sits out Week 12 with a shoulder issue. Tillery typically lines up along the defensive interior, but he could be bumped to the edge to start opposite Joey Bosa during a visit to Orchard Park. Emeke Egbule, who has zero career starts over his two pro campaigns, is the only available right defensive end on the team's roster.

Chargers' Jerry Tillery: Flashes first-round talent
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillery posted 17 tackles (nine solo) and two sacks in his rookie campaign.

Tillery played just 360 defensive snaps due in large part to the Chargers' depth along the defensive line, but the 2019 first-round pick at times exploded off the tape, working in tandem with feared defensive ends Melvin Ingram and Joey Bosa to create havoc in the middle of the pocket. Tillery should continue to see more time at defensive tackle in the coming seasons, particularly with a number of interior defensive linemen potentially not returning following a disappointing 2019 season.

Chargers' Jerry Tillery: Receiving first start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillery will make the first start of his NFL career Sunday at Tennessee, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.

Fellow DT Justin Jones (shoulder) is out for Week 7, providing Tillery with the chance to enter the starting 11. The rookie first-round pick has played a rotational role through six games with five tackles (two solo) and 1.5 sacks.

Chargers' Jerry Tillery: Picks up sack in preseason debut
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillery (shoulder) recorded three tackles (two solo) and a sack in the 19-17 preseason loss to the Saints on Sunday.

Tillery certainly had a promising preseason debut, recording a sack in the second quarter. The 2019 first-round pick has been practicing off and on since the onset of training camp, but Sunday's designation should confirm Tillery will be available Week 1 of the regular season as part of a fearsome front four.

Chargers' Jerry Tillery: Won't play Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillery (shoulder) will not play in Thursday's preseason contest, Eric D. Williams of reports.

This shouldn't come as much of a surprise, as the Chargers have been extra cautious with their first-round pick. The defensive end has seen plenty of practice time during training camp, so this designation feels more precautionary than reactionary, and it's quite possible the 22-year-old could make his preseason debut next week.

Chargers' Jerry Tillery: Gains medical clearence
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

General manager Tom Telesco said Wednesday that Tillery (shoulder) has been cleared to practice, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.

Tillery had surgery in March to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder, and Telesco continued on to say that the team will "gradually work him in" during training camp. This is still great news for the 28th-overall pick in April's draft, as he'll get to learn along side Melvin Ingram and Joey Bosa during his first NFL training camp. Expect Tillery's reps in camp and the preseason to be closely monitored heading into Week 1.

Chargers' Jerry Tillery: Unable to practice
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Tillery (shoulder) did not practice Friday during the team's rookie minicamp, Eric D. Williams of ESPN.comreports.

Tillery had surgery in March to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder, so it makes sense that he'd be unable to practice, particularly given his 3-to-4 month recovery timeline. Expect the 2019 first-round pick to be available come the start of the team's official training camp in August.

Chargers' Jerry Tillery: Joins Chargers' loaded front
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Chargers selected Tillery (torn labrum) in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, 28th overall.

Los Angeles gets more ammo for an already loaded front by adding Tillery out of Notre Dame. At 6-foot-6 and 295 pounds with 34 1/4-inch arms, Tillery is a long-levered athlete who bolstered his stock with a strong combine that was highlighted by a 4.93 40-yard dash and a 4.33-second short shuttle. His frame doesn't project well to play on the interior, but he did his best work outside the guard and outside the tackle at Notre Dame anyway. He figures to be a rotational piece behind Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram to start his career, but don't be surprised if he carves out a significant role for the Chargers before long.
