Smith suffered a significant neck injury in October of last season and proceeded to stay on the practice-squad injured list for the remainder of the campaign. The 25-year-old now will be back in Detroit for 2023 and look to carve out a role in the secondary on the active roster.

Smith went down awkwardly after contacting tight end Hunter Henry at the line of scrimmage on the first play of Sunday's game, per Michael Giardi of NFL Network.
