Burgess (ankle) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports.

The team announced Tuesday that the 23-year-old required season-ending ankle surgery, so it was only a matter of time before he move to IR. Burgess finishes his rookie campaign with eight tackles and one pass defensed in seven games.

The 23-year-old sustained the ankle injury during Monday's win over the Bears and was carted to the locker room. JuJu Hughes figures to fill a larger role as a reserve safety for the Rams in Burgess' absence.

Burgess is doubtful to return to Monday's game against the Bears due to an ankle injury.

Burgess was carted off the field early in the fourth quarter. The severity of the injury is not yet known.
