  Rotowire Oct 29, 2026

Long (undisclosed) was released by the Saints on Thursday, John Sigler of Saints Wire reports. Long was selected by the Rams in the third round of the 2019 Draft. He spent four seasons in Los Angeles before suiting up for the Raiders and Panthers in 2023. Since then, Long has been trying to land a spot on an NFL roster, and while he managed to sign with the Saints ahead of the 2026 campaign, he's been sitting on injured reserve. The 28-year-old is free to sign with another team, though it's unknown if he's healthy enough to get on the field. Long can also wait three weeks and re-sign with New Orleans.

• Rams' David Long: Heading home to L.A.

  Rotowire Apr 26, 2019

The Rams selected Long in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, 79th overall. The Los Angeles native gets to head home after playing his college ball at Michigan. A two-year starter, Long earned first-team All-Big Ten honors as a junior after locking down his side of the field all year. Long's ability to stick to his man in coverage led to him having just nine passes defensed and 17 tackles, as opposing quarterbacks opted to stay away from him. He possesses 4.45 speed with a 39 1/2-inch vertical and will be a nice addition to a Los Angeles secondary that needs a succession plan at corner beyond Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib.
