  • Islanders' Casey Cizikas: Leads team in minor penalties

Cizikas led the team in minor penalties this season with 24. The Isles rely on the line of Matt Martin, Cal Clutterbuck, and Cizikas to provide the team with a burst of energy, but that wasn't the case last season as the entire line seemed to struggle from the opening puck drop. That line will likely be together to start the 2022-23 season, but another slow start could see coach Barry Trotz contemplate making changes to one or more of the trio.

  • Islanders' Casey Cizikas: Led team in minor penalties

Cizikas was the team leader for the Islanders with 24 minor penalties, Kevin Kurz of The Athletic reports reports. This was a far cry from the 2020-21 season, where Cizikas only had 11 minor penalties for the team. The entire fourth line for the Islanders had an off-season but maybe none more than Cizikas, who seemed to be a step slower this season and may have been dealing with an injury that didn't stop him from playing but did keep him from playing his best. If Cizikas doesn't revert to the player he used to be, then the Islanders will have another long-term contract that could haunt them for years.

  • Islanders' Casey Cizikas: Career-high PIM this year

Cizikas' 48 PIM this season are the most of his career. The previous high for Cizikas was the 41 he had in 2019-20 in just 48 games. Cizikas is not a fighter, so the majority of these PIM have been minor penalties. He's only provided 14 points, though, and has gone without a point in his last eight games.

  • Islanders' Casey Cizikas: Handed one-game ban

Cizikas has been suspended for one game for boarding Carolina's Brendan Smith during Friday's win over the Hurricanes. Cizikas will miss Saturday's game against St. Louis, but he should rejoin the lineup for Tuesday's matchup with Pittsburgh. With Cizikas unavailable, look for Kieffer Bellows to draw into the lineup versus the Blues.

  • Islanders' Casey Cizikas: Notches an apple

Cizikas had an assist in a 3-0 win over the Senators on Tuesday. He also notched his eighth minor penalty in the last eight games, which is somewhat unusual given his career-high PIM is 41. Nonetheless, it was nice to see the 31 year-old get on the scoresheet for his 13th point of the season.

  • Islanders' Casey Cizikas: Registers helper in win

Cizikas logged an assist and three hits in Friday's 5-2 win over the Jets. Cizikas set up a Cal Clutterbuck empty-net goal in the third period. In a little over a month since the All-Star break, Cizikas has been solid with four goals and three assists in 16 games. The center started the season slow -- as did many Islanders -- and he's now at 11 points, 103 hits, 59 shots on net, 30 PIM and a minus-1 rating through 48 contests.

  • Islanders' Casey Cizikas: One of each in win

Cizikas scored a goal on two shots, dished an assist, added three hits and went plus-2 in Sunday's 4-0 win over the Ducks. Cizikas scored in the second period and helped out on an Andy Greene tally in the third as the Islanders got solid contributions from their depth players in the win. This was Cizikas' second multi-point effort of the season, and both have come in February. The fourth-line center has nine points, 54 shots on net, 93 hits, 16 PIM and a plus-1 rating through 42 appearances.

  • Islanders' Casey Cizikas: Tallies in Tuesday's win

Cizikas scored a goal on three shots, went plus-2 and blocked two shots in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Kraken. Cizikas struck at 10:33 of the second period. The 30-year-old snapped his five-game point drought with the goal, his fifth of the season. Cizikas continues to play a more defensive role as the fourth-line center. He's at seven points, 49 shots on net, 84 hits, 24 blocked shots and an even plus-minus rating through 39 outings.

  • Islanders' Casey Cizikas: Scoreless in four straight

Cizikas hasn't registered a point in the last four games. On the season, Cizikas only has four goals and two assists to go along with a rating of minus-2 in 37 games. Cizikas normally centers the third line flanked by Cal Clutterbuck and Matt Martin. Coach Barry Trotz has been tinkering with that line over the past month, however, as Martin has been a healthy scratch at times.

  • Islanders' Casey Cizikas: Goal and assist in win

Cizikas scored a goal on three shots and dished an assist in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Canucks. Cizikas' first-period tally held up as the game-winner, and he also set up Matt Martin for an insurance goal in the third. This was Cizikas' first multi-point effort of the season. The fourth-liner has managed six points, 43 shots on net, a minus-1 rating and 75 hits through 33 contests. While he's a fixture in the Islanders' lineup, he rarely scores enough to draw interest in fantasy.

  • Islanders' Casey Cizikas: Ready to rock

Cizikas (illness) is expected to return to action Tuesday versus Ottawa. Cizikas is expected to return to his usual fourth-line role following his one-game absence. The 30-year-old pivot has picked up four points and 71 hits through 30 contests this campaign.

  • Islanders' Casey Cizikas: Won't play Sunday

Cizikas is out of the lineup for the Islanders on Sunday due to a non-COVID-19 illness, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports. Ross Johnston will draw into the lineup but play on the third line with Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Oliver Wahlstrom when the Isles take on the Wild. Zach Parise will center the fourth line with Matt Martin and Cal Clutterbuck flanking him. The Isles will hope to get Cizikas back into the lineup Tuesday versus the Senators.

  • Islanders' Casey Cizikas: Unbottles a strike

Cizikas added a goal in a 3-2 loss to the Kings on Thursday. Cizikas poured one in against Cal Petersen in the final minute of this one, though the Islanders couldn't find an equalizer. The center has had a poor offensive season but seems to be turning things around to an extent lately, with three goals across his last six games.

  • Islanders' Casey Cizikas: Gets first goal of season

Cizikas scored a goal on two shots, doled out two hits and went plus-2 in Monday's 4-1 win over the Flyers. Cizikas' tally came at 14:28 of the second period, and it stood as the game-winner. The 30-year-old has been almost non-existent on offense this season with one goal and one assist in 25 outings. Part of his struggles can be attributed to the Islanders' putrid scoring pace of 2.29 goals per game. Cizikas is typically deployed as more of a defensive forward -- he's racked up 60 hits, 34 shots on net and a minus-4 rating in his usual bottom-six role.

  • Islanders' Casey Cizikas: Yet to score this season

Cizikas has yet to light the lamp in 24 games this season for the Islanders. The news doesn't get any better when you consider he only has one assist and a rating of minus-6 in those 24 games. This is quickly looking like a lost season for Cizikas and the Islanders. Sure, they have quite a few games to make up, but they currently sit in last place in the Metropolitan Division and are 18 points behind the Bruins for the final wild-card spot. Yes, they have five games in hand on the Bruins, but even if they were to win all five of those games, they would still be eight points behind the Bruins. This doesn't even include the four teams that are between the Islanders and Bruins in the standings. As for Cizikas, he has just one lonely assist to go with the goal-less production, and he sees almost no power-play time.

  • Islanders' Casey Cizikas: No points in 12 straight games

Cizikas is without a point in 12 straight games. Cizikas has been disappointing this season with only one point, an assist, in 20 games. Cizikas had his best showing for the Islanders in 2018-19 with 20 goals and 13 assists in 73 games, so to only have one point in 20 games this year is a drastic reduction in productivity.

  • Islanders' Casey Cizikas: Ready to rock

Cizikas (not injury related) has been activated off the non-roster injured list and will return to action Saturday versus New Jersey. Cizikas has missed the Islanders' last five games due to the NHL's COVID-19 protocols, but he'll return to his usual fourth-line role Saturday. The 30-year-old pivot has picked up one helper through 16 contests this season.

  • Islanders' Casey Cizikas: Spotted at morning skate

Per Andrew Gross of Newsday, Cizikas (COVID-19) participated in Thursday's morning skate, indicating he's cleared the NHL's COVID-19 protocols. Thursday marked the first time Cizikas has skated since he tested positive for COVID-19 on Nov. 27, and he's still not on the Islanders' active roster, so for now he should still be considered out indefinitely. Another update on the 30-year-old forward should surface once he's cleared to rejoin the lineup.

  • Islanders' Casey Cizikas: Still not skating

Cizikas (COVID-19) still isn't skating or traveling with the Islanders, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports. The Islanders at one time had seven players in the COVID-19 protocols, and now Cizikas is all that remains. He can be activated at any time, but it seems he may be having problems recovering from the virus. When Cizikas will return to the team is unknown as the Islanders haven't released any information on his status. When he does return to the team, he will once again center the fourth line.
