Bruins' Paul Carey: Shifts to minors
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Bruins sent Carey down to AHL Providence on Sunday.

Carey suited up in just one game of a two-game stint with the big club, playing 6:22 minutes and going pointless. The 31-year-old has been a journeyman with six teams in his career, so is a likely candidate to re-join the team when injuries occur.

Bruins' Paul Carey: Bumps up a rank
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Bruins recalled Carey from AHL Providence on Saturday.

The Bruins are dealing with an assortment of injuries up front, so Carey's being recalled for depth. The 31-year-old posted zero points over seven NHL games last year, but he's been more successful in the minors this season with 13 points over 17 contests.

Bruins' Paul Carey: Moved to minors
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Bruins sent Carey back to AHL Providence on Thursday, TSN Transactions reports.

Carey drew into just two contests during his time with the Bruins, but he was hanging around with the big club as a depth option during the series. With AHL Providence headed to the playoffs, he will instead head to the minors to help the other Bruins with their run. He could rejoin the top club as soon as Providence is eliminated.

Bruins' Paul Carey: Up with big club
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Carey was an extra at practice Tuesday after being called up from AHL Providence.

Considering David Backes is having a hard time staying in the lineup, Carey is unlikely to get a look during the postseason. The winger figures to continue practicing with the team and will serve as an emergency depth option in case a handful of guys get hurt. Once Sean Kuraly (hand) is given the all-clear, Carey could find himself back with AHL Providence for the Calder Cup Playoffs.

Bruins' Paul Carey: Signs extension
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Carey has signed a two-year, two-way contract extension with the Bruins.

Carey's new deal has an annual NHL cap hit of $700,000. The 30-year-old will continue to provide the B's organization with veteran depth up front. The 6-foot-1, 200-pounder has seen action in just seven NHL games his season, going without a point in that span, but Carey has at least excelled at the AHL level, having logged 21 goals and 50 points in 52 contests to date.

Bruins' Paul Carey: Heading back to minors
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Carey was reassigned to AHL Providence on Friday.

In his brief stint with Boston, Carey saw action in two games, logging a total of three shots on goal, an even ice rating, 28:49 minutes of ice time and 0:16 of power-play ice time. The Boston native has scored 20 points (14 goals, six assists) in 21 games with AHL Providence this season since being acquired from the Senators' organization Jan. 11. The 30-year-old is an option for another recall when the big club needs added depth up front, but with David Pastrnak back in action, Carey will look to keep up his strong momentum at the minor-league level.

Bruins' Paul Carey: Headed to NHL
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Carey has been recalled from AHL Providence.

With Carey up with the big club, fellow forward Peter Cehlarik was sent to the AHL in a corresponding move. Carey earned his call-up by racking up 14 goals and 20 points in 21 games for Providence since being acquired from the Senators' organization. The 30-year-old has eight goals and 16 points to his credit over the course of 97 games at the NHL level and figures to fill a bottom-six role for Boston.

Bruins' Paul Carey: Dished to Boston
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Senators traded Carey to the Bruins on Friday in exchange for Cody Goloubef.

Carey has logged just five NHL games this season for the Senators and has never been a consistent contributor at the top level. He will likely wind up with AHL Providence, where he should provide the minor-league club with a veteran presence up front.

Senators' Paul Carey: Returned to AHL affiliate
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Senators reassigned Carey to AHL Belleville on Wednesday.

Carey served as a healthy scratch during his one-game stay with the big club, so this move isn't surprising. The veteran forward will return to a prominent role with Belleville, where he's racked up four goals and 19 points in 20 appearances this season.

Senators' Paul Carey: Back with big club
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Carey was recalled from AHL Belleville on Monday.

Injuries are piling up for the Senators, which is why they are calling on the veteran journeyman for reinforcement. Last season, the 30-year-old got his first real NHL playing time, but he only managed 51 shots on goal in 60 games. The upside here, for fantasy players, is effectively nil. Carey may not even break into the lineup while he's in Ottawa.

Senators' Paul Carey: Shipped down to minors
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Carey was reassigned to AHL Belleville on Wednesday.

Carey will likely find himself moving between leagues frequently this season, as he figures to be the primary call-up option when injuries pop up. In his five NHL outings this year, the Boston native is pointless while averaging a mere 9:08 of ice time.

Senators' Paul Carey: Jumps to big club
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Carey was recalled by the Senators on Tuesday, Steve Lloyd of TSN 1200 Ottawa reports.

Carey's a solid fourth-line player with seven goals and 14 points in 60 games last season. The Sens need depth at forward since Brady Tkachuk (groin) and Max McCormick (lower body) are considered day-to-day ahead of Saturday's game versus the Maple Leafs.

Senators' Paul Carey: Joins Ottawa's system
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Carey signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Senators on Sunday. He will make $700,000 at the NHL level with that figure decreasing to $350,000 in the AHL.

The two-way aspect of this deal will allow the Senators to freely move Carey to the minors and back without having to expose him to waivers. Last season, he made his way into 60 games, adding seven goals and just as many assists for the Rangers. We'll have to see him average more than 10:16 of ice time to take him seriously in fantasy circles, but we're fairly certain that Carey does not have top-six upside.

Rangers' Paul Carey: Sets career high with games played
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Carey skated for 60 games in 2017-18, notching seven goals and seven assists while averaging 10:16 of ice time.

This was Carey's first season in New York and also the first he didn't primarily play in the minors, but after posting 55 points (24 goals, 31 assists) in 55 games for AHL Hershey last season, he didn't have much more to prove at the lower level. Carey did enjoy an above average shooting percentage of 13.7, but even with the inflated mark he wasn't shy of firing the puck anyway, as he averaged 1.5 shot attempts per game. The 29-year-old is set to be an unrestricted free agent, and with the Rangers in the middle of a youth movement, he could be forced to find another home.

Rangers' Paul Carey: Just one point in last 24
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Carey finished with a minus-1 rating over 9:17 of ice time in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Flyers.

Only Cody McLeod (8:49) saw less ice time. Carey has just one point in his last 24 appearances and has only played more than 10 minutes once in the last 12, so his fantasy value is asymptotic to zero.

Rangers' Paul Carey: Point drought at seven games
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Carey skated just 7:50 in Monday's 2-1 loss to the Stars.

Carey has now failed to mark the scoresheet in his past seven appearances, and he's having trouble even cracking the lineup. With 14 points and 10 PIM in 71 career NHL games, the 29-year-old forward doesn't bring much skill or grit to the table.

Rangers' Paul Carey: Scores 2018's first NHL goal
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Carey scored his fifth goal of the season in Monday's 3-2 overtime win against the Sabres.

Carey wasn't bothered by the outdoor conditions in the 2018 Winter Classic, beating Robin Lehner five-hole from the slot for the first goal of the 2018 calendar year just 4:09 into the contest. The 29-year-old grinder is far from a spectacular talent, but he's chipped in nicely from the fourth line with three goals and a helper in the past six contests.

Rangers' Paul Carey: Records first career multi-point showing
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Carey registered two goals and three shots through 13:32 of ice time during Tuesday's 4-1 win over Anaheim.

This was Carey's first career multi-point outing, and he had just three goals and four assists through his previous 53 games at the highest level, so it's probably wise not to overreact to Tuesday's strong showing. Carey has been skating primarily in a fourth-line role, and unless the 29-year-old Boston native's role expands, he should probably remain on the waiver wire in the majority of settings.

Rangers' Paul Carey: Producing sparingly
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Carey logged one hit and a blocked shot in Saturday's 3-2 overtime victory over Boston.

Carey has been finding consistent playing time lately, playing in each of the last 13 games for the Rangers, but has only averaged a mere 10:22 of ice time in that span. Still, the 29-year-old has consistently bounced between the NHL and the minors throughout his career, and his five points (two goals, three assists) thus far in 2017-18 already amount to a new career high.

Rangers' Paul Carey: Being used sparingly
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Carey is struggling for regular minutes (9:06 per game) when he does manage to crack the lineup.

Carey has managed to crack the game-day lineup in three straight outings following a nine-game stint in the press box. While suiting up is a step in the right direction, the Massachusetts native has spent most of his time watching from the end of the bench, as he averaged 7:50 of ice time in those appearances. Not surprisingly, the 29-year-old has been held off the scoresheet, adding a mere five shots on goal, seven hits and four PIM on the year.
