  • Islanders' Sebastian Aho: Currently toiling in minors

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(10/15/18) Aho has one assist through four games with AHL Bridgeport to start the 2018-19 campaign.

It appears that Aho will have to continue biding his time in the minors after recording four points to go along with a minus-5 rating over his first 22 NHL games in 2017-18. The Islanders signed Luca Sbisa to a one-year deal late in the offseason, and one would think that transaction never would have transpired if Aho was ready to consistently hold a spot at the top level.

Islanders' Sebastian Aho: Scores goal in win

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(9/16/18) Aho scored a goal and helped the Islanders defeat the Flyers 3-0 on Sunday.

The 20-year-old Swedish defenseman played a total of 62 games in 2017-18, with 40 of them coming in AHL Bridgeport. Aho produced 29 points in the minors a season ago, adding four more in 22 NHL contests. He'll hope to crack the opening night roster as a depth D-man but could be sent down to the minors again if he struggles in training camp.

Islanders' Sebastian Aho: Back with Bridgeport

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(3/22/18) Aho was reassigned to AHL Bridgeport on Thursday.

The Swedish defenseman has only appeared in two games this month, so he'd be better off in the minors to refine his skills. Aho's posted only four points against a minus-5 rating through 22 games, but there's something to be said about how he's averaged close to a full minute on the power play as a rookie.

Islanders' Sebastian Aho: Won't play Wednesday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/28/18) Aho will be a healthy scratch for the Islanders on Wednesday versus the Canadiens.

Aho has looked overwhelmed in the defensive zone at times this season and could lose playing time due to the acquisition of veteran Brandon Davidson on Saturday. Aho has one goal, three assists and is a minus-4 in 20 games for the Isles, but is now likely the odd man out and could see himself back in the AHL once a roster spot is needed, as it would make little sense to have a rookie rot away on the bench.

Islanders' Sebastian Aho: Paper assigned to AHL

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/26/18) Aho was designated to AHL Bridgeport on Monday in a paper move, Arthur Staple of The Atlantic reports. Despite the transaction, he's expected to stay with the Islanders.

The move was made so Aho would be eligible to compete in the AHL playoffs, and shouldn't affect his playing time going forward. The 22-year-old has drawn into the lineup for the majority of the contests since his call-up Dec. 31, posting four points (one goal, three assists) in 20 games.
