  • Sharks' Brent Burns: Held in check

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/6/18) Burns skated to a minus-2 rating and was blanked on two shot attempts Sunday in a 3-0 playoff-elimination loss to the Golden Knights.

The 2017 Norris Trophy winner went minus-4 and failed to record a point between Game 5 and 6. Clearly, the expansion club made the necessary adjustments after Burns rang up two goals and three assists to craft a three-game point streak earlier in the series, but credit Vegas goalie Marc-Andre Fleury for coming up huge with two shutouts in the series. Burns inked an eight-year, $64 million deal with the Sharks in November of 2016, so he'll have plenty more opportunities to try and lead Team Teal to its first-ever Stanley Cup championship.

Sharks' Brent Burns: Extends point streak to three

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/3/18) Burns posted an assist Wednesday night on his team's final goal, sealing a 4-0 win over Vegas in Game 4 to even the series at two games apiece.

Burns' contribution now marks the fourth time in the past five games that he's found the scoresheet, and he's scored six points over that stretch. Solid numbers aren't unusual for Burns after a 67-point regular season, with the majority of those points coming via assist. Expect the scoring numbers to continue, with a high emphasis on assists rather than goals.

Sharks' Brent Burns: Earns assist Monday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(5/1/18) Burns garnered a helper in Monday's overtime loss to Vegas.

Burns has a trio of points in the Sharks' second-round matchup with the Golden Knights, which already exceeds his point total (two) from the first round against the Ducks. With the extra periods in the previous two contests, the blueliner is averaging an astonishing 28:43 of ice time versus Vegas. Whether it's this series or a potential appearance in the Western Conference finals, the heavy workload will likely start to affect the bearded wonder at some point.

Sharks' Brent Burns: Posts three-point night

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/29/18) Burns recorded two goals, three points and seven shots on net during a 4-3 double overtime victory against the Golden Knights on Saturday. The series is tied, 1-1.

The Sharks' top defender posted his first multi-point contest of the playoffs while amassing nearly 37 minutes in the overtime contest. On the way to the Stanley Cup Finals two years ago, Burns had eight multi-point games. If Burns is finally heating up, it could mean big things for the Sharks.

Sharks' Brent Burns: Notches two points

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/8/18) Burns scored a goal and an assist Saturday against the Wild.

Burns' two points came in a losing effort, and one season after scoring 29 goals and 76 points, he finishes this season with just 12 goals and 66 points along with a career-worst minus-18 rating. Burns' shooting percentage was one-third of what it was last season at just 3.4 percent, and despite firing over 300 pucks on net for the third straight season did not reach the 30-goal mark. Despite a disappointing season, Burns has been a big part of the Sharks' success as they head into the playoffs.
