SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) Clayton Hughes scored a career-high 23 points on 9-of-10 shooting with four 3-pointers and Indiana State shot 76 percent in the first half in an 86-57 drubbing of San Jose State on Wednesday night.

The Sycamores made 19 of 25 field goals before the break, just shy of the school shooting-percentage record for a half of 76.7 percent set in 2006 against Drake.

Hughes was 9-of-9 from the field, tying the school single-game shooting percentage record set by Lucas Eitel in 2012 and Denny Hinson in 1995, before missing a 3-pointer with 33 seconds left.

Tyreke Key scored 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting for Indiana State (4-1), which finished shooting 64 percent to the Spartans' 30 percent. Devin Thomas added 10 points and six rebounds and the Sycamores outscored the Spartans 50-20 in the paint.

Hughes opened with a 3, sparking a 9-3 run, then hit another 3 amid a 12-0 run and the Sycamores led 44-20 at halftime. Allante Holston's second-half put back put Indiana State up by 34 points with 13:30 left to play.

Brae Ivey scored 12 points and Oumar Barry added 11 for the Spartans (1-6), who have lost six straight.
