KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) LaVell Boyd made four 3-pointers and scored 21 points, freshman Xavier Bishop had a season-best 17 points, and UMKC beat Division II Arkansas-Monticello 97-82 on Friday night.

Boyd scored 10 points in the first 10 minutes as UMKC had a 21-15 lead, but he was held scoreless for the rest of the half. In the second half, Isaiah Ross made back-to-back 3-pointers to extend UMKC's lead to 71-60 with 10:17 remaining.

Martez Harrison, averaging 17.2 points, was held to 13 points and Ross finished with 10 points for UMKC (4-2) in the first of a three-game homestand. Bishop eclipsed his previous career-high of nine points in the first half when he had 10 points in 11 minutes.

UMKC shot 32.3 percent from the field in the first half and had just a 36-34 halftime lead. Monticello also shot under 35 percent but hit 14 of 19 free throws to stay close.

Derylton Hill led Monticello with 23 points and seven rebounds. Cobe Goosby added 17 and Vicktor Arnick had 10 points and seven rebounds.
