SAN FRANCISCO (AP) Chase Foster scored a career-high 22 points and San Francisco beat Division II San Francisco State 91-59 on Tuesday night in the Dons' return to Kezar Pavilion.

USF (7-1), under first-year head coach Kyle Smith, is off to its best start since the 1999-00 season - when it started 12-1.

The Dons led by 11 points with 2:27 left in the first half but the Gators pulled to 37-32 on Jash Kahlon's pull-up jumper just before halftime. USF was up 50-42 before going on an 11-0 run - with eight points from Foster - for a 19-point lead.

Matt McCarthy had 12 points and nine rebounds for San Francisco.

Coley Apsay scored 10 points for San Francisco State, which counted it as an exhibition game. The Gators haven't beaten the Dons in 26 regular-season meetings.

It was USF's first game at the pavilion since March 4, 1958. To commemorate, the Dons wore throwback jerseys from that era, including short shorts.
