Holland Woods had 18 points and 11 assists for Portland State (2-3). Alonzo Walker added 13 points and nine rebounds. Chris Whitaker had 11 points for the road team.
Rich Washington had 18 points and eight rebounds for the Spartans (3-3). Seneca Knight added 17 points. Zach Chappell had 17 points.
Craig LeCesne, who was second on the Spartans in scoring entering the matchup with 11 points per game, shot only 17 percent in the game (1 of 6).
Portland State plays Grambling State on Tuesday. San Jose State plays Oregon State on Wednesday.
