Buddy and his boys went out to Hawaii and captured the Diamond Head Classic crown. (USATSI)

Oklahoma is one of five undefeated teams still standing, and on the heels of the squad's three-wins-in-four-days performance in Hawaii last week, star Buddy Hield is the clear-cut most recent recipient of the CBS Sports Player of the Week award.

The Bahamian born baller put up 28.7 points and 6.0 rebounds while shooting 13 for 22 from 3-point range in OU's run to the Diamond Head Classic title. The Sooners got past Washington State, Hawaii (on the 9-2 Rainbow Warriors' home floor, no less) and Harvard.

Hield, who has scored 25 points or more in five consecutive games, also has command of the No. 1 spot on Kenpom.com's kPOY calculator. On Friday, prior to his 35 points and in Oklahoma's title game-winning showing against Harvard, I ranked him No. 3 in the national player of the year race. I'd put him at No. 2 as of today, just a hair behind the injured Denzel Valentine. He's gotten better with each week, and Oklahoma is a national title contender because its star has improved his all-around offensive game to a level that didn't seem likely two years ago.

It also must be emphasized: Oklahoma is actually 4-0 on Hawaiian soil this season. You'll recall the Sooners knocked off then-undefeated, top 10-ranked Villanova in the Pearl Harbor Classic on Dec. 7. Two flights in less than three weeks to Hawaii and the team was showing no fatigue. Lon Kruger's got a great group.

If Hield's next two games (a couple of biggies -- vs. Iowa State and at Kansas) are even close to his averages this season (25 points and five rebounds), he'll be at the top of the POY pecking order within two weeks.

Here are the highlights of Hield and Co. in the Diamond Head Classic championship game.

A distinct shoutout out to New Mexico State'es Pascal Siakam, who notched 30.5 points and 10.5 rebounds against Oral Roberts and Baylor. Other standout performances: BYU's Chase Fischer, who had 41 against New Mexico; Oakland's Kay Felder, who showed large and had 37 points and nine assists in his team's OT loss against No. 1 Michigan State; Saint Joe's Isaiah Miles, who had 36 and 15 against Virginia Tech; and Davidson's Jack Gibbs, who in one game last week put up 41 points on 13-of-18 shooting, but astonishingly also had 10 turnovers. Has anyone in college ever put up a double-double with a 40-burger in points and double-digit turnovers?
